    • Remains shut down
      Rangers general manager Chris Young said Wednesday that Scherzer (back) will remain shut down from throwing for the next few days due to a right thumb and forearm issue, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports.

      Advice: Scherzer has been on the 15-day injured list all season while completing his recovery from Dec. 15 surgery to address a herniated disc in his back, but it's his pitching arm that has presented complications for him coming out of his first rehab start with Triple-A Round Rock back on April 24. Young said that Scherzer won't resume ramping up again until the tightness and discomfort in his arm completely subsides, so the veteran right-hander still looks to be multiple weeks away from being ready to return from the IL.       Witt went 2-for-4 with a walk, a stolen base and two runs scored in Tuesday's 6-5 loss to the Brewers.

      Advice: Witt has three multi-hit efforts and four steals over six contests in May, batting .350 (7-for-20) for the month. While other members of the Royals' lineup have plateaued or cooled off altogether, Witt is still going strong from the No. 2 hole.       Advice: The three walks matched a season high, and the Nationals proved opportunistic by logging three steals with Burnes on the mound. The right-hander has earned a quality start in five of his eight outings and has yet to give up more than three runs in any of his starts.       Sanchez (2-3) picked up the win Tuesday against Toronto, allowing one run on six hits in seven innings while striking out five and walking two.

      Advice: Sanchez was coming off a pair of starts in which he allowed nine runs (five earned) in eight innings with more walks (five) than strikeouts (four), so there was some speculation that he could lose his rotation spot or fall into a piggyback situation with Spencer Turnbull where only the latter would have a chance at wins. Instead, Sanchez bounced back with an excellent outing, throwing more than 6.0 innings for the first time this year. Turnbull did follow Sanchez out of the pen, throwing the final two innings, but if Tuesday's outing is any indication, Sanchez will continue to be used as a traditional starter as long as he pitches well enough to remain in the role. Verlander has served up five homers in four starts and 22.1 innings, which isn't unusual for him, but he's beginning to have trouble keeping traffic off the basepaths ahead of the long balls -- he's walked at least three batters in three straight starts.       Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Tuesday that the team has considered sitting Goldschmidt for a few games as the first baseman works on his swing, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

      Advice: It doesn't sound like anything has been decided on Goldschmidt, with Marmol noting the club is "evaluating everything in order to get him right."
