    • Merrill Kelly (shoulder) set to resume throwing
      Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Tuesday that Merrill Kelly (shoulder) will start a throwing program next week.

      Advice: The right-hander has apparently been progressing well in his recovery from a right shoulder strain and is now on the cusp of resuming baseball work. Kelly will require some time to build his arm up before progressing to mound work and eventually a rehab assignment, so he shouldn't be expected to rejoin the Diamondbacks until sometime in July.       Red Sox manager Alex Cora told reporters Tuesday that Tyler O’Neill will undergo additional testing on his right knee.

      Advice: O’Neill has been sent back to Boston to undergo additional imaging for precautionary reason to rule out anything significant. The 28-year-old slugger has missed three straight contests due to right knee soreness, but it sounds like he’ll avoid a trip to the injured list.       O'Neill has been sent back to Boston to receive imaging on his sore right knee, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

      Advice: Red Sox manager Alex Cora indicated that it's more for peace of mind than a worry that O'Neill is dealing with a significant injury, but it's still not an encouraging development. O'Neill is missing a third straight start Tuesday, and it's safe to assume he won't play in the series finale in Baltimore on Wednesday, either.       Kodai Senga (shoulder) played catch on the field prior to the doubleheader against the Dodgers on Tuesday.

      Advice: It’s the first time that Senga has been able to play catch since he was shut down with inflammation in his triceps. The right-hander has been on the 60-day injured list since the start of the season because of shoulder issues, and the expectation now is that Senga won’t be able to return for the Mets — and fantasy players — until around the All-Star break.       Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said Tuesday that Alvarez (thumb) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Binghamton on Thursday, Jorge Castillo of ESPN.com reports.

      Advice: Mendoza offered that Alvarez will catch 5-to-7 innings in his first game with Binghamton and build up from there. Alvarez is five weeks removed from undergoing surgery to repair a torn UCL in his left thumb.       Francisco Alvarez (thumb) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Binghamton on Thursday.

      Advice: That according to Mets manager Carlos Mendoza, who also told reporters the catcher is expected to be behind the plate for five to seven innings. Alvarez was able to take batting practice over the weekend, and the 22-year-old backstop was reportedly hitting the ball hard as he works his way back from the thumb injury that has kept him out since April.
