    • Chris Sale shuts down Guardians in notching win
Chris Sale held the Guardians to one run and two hits in seven innings Friday in the Braves’ 6-2 victory.

Advice: Sale gave up a leadoff homer to Steven Kwan in the first and pretty much nothing else. The other hit was a single, and he walked just one. He’s 3-1 with a 3.69 ERA in five starts, all of which have come on at least five days’ rest. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:03 pm

    • Pauses throwing program
Cobb (hip/elbow/shoulder) has been held back from throwing for the last few days due to soreness in his right shoulder, and he is set to see a team doctor Friday night, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.comreports.

Advice: Cobb was shifted to the 60-day IL on April 20 to give him more time to recover from his multiple ailments. He underwent left hip surgery in the offseason and was progressing through his rehab assignment following spring training, but he has suffered another setback with right shoulder soreness this time. Cobb's visit with the team doctor Friday night should give him and the Giants a better idea of the next steps forward in his rehab schedule. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:26 pm

    • Giancarlo Stanton getting night off on Friday
Giancarlo Stanton is absent from the Yankees’ starting lineup for Friday night’s showdown against the Brewers.

Advice: The 34-year-old slugger will get a night off after starting five straight games for the Bombers. Aaron Judge will serve as the team’s designated hitter on Friday night while Trent Grisham draws a rare start in center field and will bat ninth against Colin Rea and the Brewers. • Tommy Pham batting second in White Sox’ debut
Tommy Pham will start in center field and bat second in his White Sox’ debut against the Rays on Friday night.

Advice: The 36-year-old outfielder played in four games during his brief stay at Triple- Charlotte, going 5-for-17 with a double. The White Sox are hopeful that he’ll be able to inject some life into an offense that has been among the league’s worst through the first month of the season. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:58 pm

    • Throwing live batting practice
Pivetta (elbow) will throw a 50-pitch live batting practice session Saturday, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.

Advice: If Pivetta comes out the live BP session without any hiccups, he should be cleared to make a rehab start next week. That would probably set him up to rejoin the Red Sox rotation the following week if all goes well. Pivetta has been out since early April with a right elbow flexor strain. • Masyn Winn getting a breather on Friday night
Masyn Winn is not in the Cardinals’ starting lineup for Friday evening’s tilt against the Mets.

Advice: The 22-year-old shortstop had started each of the team’s last nine games, so this looks to be just a regular day of rest for him. Winn is off to a terrific start this season, slashing a healthy .313/.385/.418 with zero homers, six RBI and four stolen bases (in five attempts) through 80 plate appearances in his first 23 games. Brandon Crawford will start in his place and bat eighth against Jose Butto and the Mets. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:40 pm

    • Receives rest day
Winn is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Mets, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Winn started the previous nine games but will take a seat Friday after he posted a .208/.394/.292 slash line during that stretch. Brandon Crawford will receive a start at shortstop in the series opener at New York. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 12:16 pm

    • White Sox select Tommy Pham
White Sox selected the contract of OF Tommy Pham from Triple-A Charlotte.

Advice: Pham signed a minor league deal with the White Sox earlier this month and now joins the active roster. The 36-year-old veteran played four games at the Triple-A level where he went 5-for-17 with a double. He’ll look to give Chicago any sort of spark on offense as the team is off to their worst 25-game start in franchise history with a 3-22 record. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:19 am

    • Added to big-league roster
The White Sox selected Pham's contract from Triple-A Charlotte on Friday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Signed to a minor-league contract April 15, Pham has been knocking some rust off at Charlotte, where he went 5-for-17 with one double, two stolen bases and a 3:1 K:BB. The 36-year-old should receive regular playing time in the outfield for the White Sox, with most of it likely to come between center and right field. Pham had a .774 OPS with 16 homers and 22 steals in 2023 and makes for a viable fantasy option in most formats. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:16 am
