    • Wasn't available to pinch-hit
Blue Jays manager John Schneider said that Guerrero (finger) wasn't available to pinch-hit Monday versus the Astros after being a late scratch from the lineup, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Guerrero was initially in Monday's lineup but had to be scratched after he "wasn't comfortable squeezing the bat" pregame, per Schneider. The fourth and fifth fingers on his right hand remain swollen as a result of a hit by pitch in Sunday's game against the Yankees. Guerrero will attempt to swing a bat again Tuesday before it's decided whether he can return to the lineup. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:38 pm

    • Brandon Nimmo absent due to cut on forehead
Brandon Nimmo is out of Monday’s lineup after suffering a cut on his forehead when he fell in his hotel room last night.

Advice: Fortunately, it doesn’t sound like Nimmo hurt his head beyond he cut. His absence means the Mets have Jeff McNeil in the outfield and JosĂ© Iglesias at second tonight. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:48 pm

    • Nursing forehead laceration
Nimmo is absent from Monday's lineup against the Nationals due to a laceration on his forehead, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

Advice: Nimmo suffered the cut when he slipped and fell in his hotel room Sunday night in Washington, D.C. He passed concussion tests and is expected to be fine, but the injury will cost him a start. It's not clear whether Nimmo might be available off the bench Monday. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:45 pm

    • Getting rest Monday
Nimmo is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Nationals.

Advice: With a tough lefty (MacKenzie Gore) on the hill for the Nationals and with the lefty-hitting Nimmo having started in each of the Mets' last 15 games, New York manager Carlos Mendoza likely viewed the series opener with Washington as an optimal time to give the 31-year-old outfielder the day off. Jeff McNeil will pick up a start in left field in place of Nimmo, who concluded June with a blistering .382/.485/.782 slash line over his final 14 games of the month. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 12:50 pm

    • Vlad Jr. (finger) scratched from Monday’s lineup
Blue Jays removed Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (finger) from the starting lineup on Monday.

Advice: Guerrero Jr. was hit by a pitch in the hand yesterday and seemed confident he’d be able to play, but the Blue Jays are pulling him from the lineup with “Right 4th/5th finger discomfort.” It’s likely that his hand just didn’t feel up to the task after batting practice, but it doesn’t seem like a situation that will keep him out too long. Spencer Horwitz will play first base in his absence. Rotoworld Yesterday, 12:48 pm

    • Brewers send Tyler Black to minors (again)
Brewers optioned INF Tyler Black to Triple-A Nashville.

Advice: Black got his second chance with the Brewers this season but rarely played, going 3-for-11 and sitting this entire week before being demoted to make room for Garrett Mitchell to come off the IL. Black has the tolls to be a useful fantasy player, but he might not get the opportunity this season. Rotoworld Yesterday, 11:31 am

    • Scratched from lineup
Guerrero was scratched from the lineup for Monday's game against the Astros due to right fourth/fifth finger discomfort, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Guerrero was hit in the right hand by a pitch in the third inning Sunday's 8-1 loss to the Yankees and was ultimately removed from the contest in the bottom of the eighth. While he was initially slated to play Monday in the series opener versus the Astros, some lingering soreness will ultimately prevent him from doing so. X-rays on the hand returned negative, and Guerrero is considered day-to-day. Ernie Clement will enter the lineup as a replacement for Guerrero, manning third base and batting ninth. • Cleared for Canada Day start
Guerrero (hand) will start at first base and bat third in Monday's game against the Astros.

Advice: Guerrero was hit in the right hand by a pitch in the third inning of Sunday's 8-1 loss to the Yankees, but he proceeded to stay in the game until he was lifted for a pinch hitter in the bottom of the eighth. X-rays on Guerrero's hand came back negative, and his removal from the contest might just have been precautionary while the Blue Jays faced a seven-run deficit at the time of his exit. Even with a quick turnaround for Monday's Canada Day game that begins at 3:07 p.m. ET, the Blue Jays evidently felt comfortable enough with Guerrero's health to insert him back in the lineup. • Two hits in return
Diaz went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored Sunday against the White Sox.

Advice: Diaz was activated from the injured list after three weeks and returned to serve as the designated hitter while hitting fifth. He collected a hit in his first plate appearance, showing no signs of rust. Diaz's return will likely push Jacob Stallings into a backup role and could end consistent playing time for Hunter Goodman.
