    • Jordan Montgomery two weeks away from return
Jordan Montgomery (knee) is two weeks away from returning to the MLB rotation.

Advice: Montgomery, who has been sidelined since the first week of July with knee inflammation, threw a bullpen on Tuesday and doesn’t figure to need a rehab start before rejoining the rotation. The current belief is that he is about 12-14 days away from returning and will be back for either the Kansas City or Pittsburgh series after the break. Of course, he also as a 6.44 ERA, 1.68 WHIP, and 45/23 K/BB ratio across 65 2/3 innings (13 starts) this season and does not need to be put right back into fantasy lineups. • Getting afternoon off
Alvarez is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Nationals, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Alvarez will receive a breather for Thursday's matinee contest after he had started each of the previous four days, with three coming at catcher and one at designated hitter. Luis Torrens will fill in behind the dish Thursday in place of Alvarez, who is slashing .300/.382/.433 thus far in July. Rotowire.com Today, 8:14 am
    • Receiving afternoon off
Diaz is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Reds.

Advice: Diaz will receive a breather for Thursday's day game after he went 2-for-4 with an RBI while catching all nine innings of the Rockies' 6-5 win Wednesday night. Hunter Goodman will handle the catching duties for Colorado. Rotowire.com Today, 7:22 am

    • Fans eight in sixth win
Sears (6-7) picked up the win Wednesday, allowing one run on four hits and two walks over 5.2 innings in a 5-2 victory over the Red Sox. He struck out eight.

Advice: The southpaw fell one out short of his seventh quality start of the season, getting lifted after a season-high 114 pitches (70 strikes), but it was still an impressive showing from Sears. Since getting rocked for 12 runs and four homers in 5.2 innings over back-to-back starts against the Twins in June, he's delivered a stingy 2.16 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 20:4 K:BB in his last three trips to the mound. Sears will now get an extended rest, as he's not in line to pitch again until after the All-Star break. Rotowire.com Today, 6:54 am

    • Homers again Wednesday
Nimmo went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a 6-2 victory versus the Nationals on Wednesday.

Advice: Nimmo got New York off to a strong start with a 440-foot solo blast in the first inning. It was his third straight game with a long ball and his fourth straight contest with at least one RBI. Nimmo logged career-best marks with 24 homers and 68 RBI last season, and he is on pace to surpass both totals in 2024 with 16 home runs and 59 runs batted in through 380 plate appearances. • Nabs win Wednesday in Game 2
Wacha (6-6) earned the win over the Cardinals in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader, allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits and one walk while striking out three batters over five innings.

Advice: It wasn't a smooth outing for Wacha, as he tossed only one 1-2-3 inning and needed 84 pitches to get through five frames. Kansas City's offense gave him ample support, but the right-hander nearly lost his chance at a victory when he gave up two runs in the bottom of the fifth to allow St. Louis to close the gap to 5-4. The three earned runs were the most Wacha has allowed since May 4 -- over his previous eight starts, he had posted a 2.31 ERA and 1.03 WHIP across 46.2 frames. Wacha's overall 3.83 ERA puts him on pace to log a third straight season with a sub-4.00 earned run average. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:41 pm
    • JP Sears strikes out eight in win over Red Sox
JP Sears struck out eight and allowed one run over 5 2/3 innings on Wednesday in a win over the Red Sox.

Advice: Sears was in complete control on Wednesday night at historic Fenway Park against a red-hot Boston lineup, allowing just four baserunners and carrying a shutout into the sixth inning before giving up a leadoff homer to lefty-masher Rob Refsnyder. He was lifted later in the frame following a two-out single by Connor Wong. The 28-year-old southpaw generated an impressive 20 swinging strikes, with half of those coming on his four-seam fastball, and finished with a respectable 32 percent CSW. He’s allowed three earned runs or fewer in three consecutive outings since June 28 and will bring a pedestrian 4.56 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 76/32 K/BB ratio across 100 2/3 innings (19 starts) into the All-Star break. • Wacha allows three earned over 5 IP to down Cards
Michael Wacha allowed three earned runs on seven hits over five innings to pick up the win against the Cardinals on Wednesday.

Advice: Wacha gave up a solo blast to Lars Nootbaar in the second inning and scattered two more earned runs across the fourth and fifth innings before eventually being pulled after 84 pitches. Wacha has allowed six earned runs over his last 22 1/3 innings pitched, lowering his ERA from 4.07 to 3.83 over that span. The veteran righty continues to be a solid option for fantasy managers in roto leagues. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:28 pm
    • Dominant in final first-half start
Imanaga (8-2) tossed six scoreless innings to earn the win Wednesday against the Orioles. He allowed six hits and a walk, while striking out six.

Advice: Imanaga finished the first half of the season in style, as he allowed zero runs in a start for the seventh time already this year. The lefty got off to a blazing start in his MLB debut, posting a 0.84 ERA across his first nine outings, before enduring a few lumps since then. However, he has a solid 3.00 ERA over his last three starts and 2.97 ERA overall, giving him some momentum heading into his All-Star appearance next week. Imanaga is tentatively set to take the mound again for the Cubs on July 20 against the Diamondbacks. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:25 pm
