• Justyn-Henry Malloy homers, doubles to lead Tigers
Justyn-Henry Malloy came through with a solo homer and a two-run double in leading the Tigers past the Nationals 7-2 on Thursday.

Advice: The homer was Malloy’s second in nine games since his callup. He’s batting .217/.367/.522 through 30 plate appearances. It’s doubtful that he’ll keep slugging .500, but his OBP figures to remain pretty good. Mixed leaguers can likely do better. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:28 pm
  • Taylor Walls excluded from Thursday’s lineup
Taylor Walls is taking a seat against a left-hander Thursday against the Cubs.

Advice: Walls has actually hit lefties better than righties in his career, though he’s still awfully weak against both. Walls had started five of six games since coming off the injured list. The Rays went 1-4 in those games, with the lone win coming Tuesday after Walls was replaced in the seventh and the team rallied for all five of its runs. The Rays have scored a total of eight runs in the 42 innings in which Walls has played. Rotoworld Yesterday, 12:58 pm

  • Abraham Toro remains leadoff man despite slump
The slumping Abraham Toro is again in the leadoff spot for the A’s for Thursday’s game against the Twins.

Advice: That’s hardly a surprise, considering that Toro has led off every game for the A’s since May 5. Still, he’s not exactly succeeding in the spot, having posted a .281 OBP in 46 games there. He’s hit .202/.228/.270 in his last 20 games. Rotoworld Yesterday, 12:49 pm

  • Brett Baty plays second base in Triple-A
The Mets have Brett Baty making his first professional start at second base in Triple-A on Thursday.

Advice: Baty took some reps as a middle infielder last month after the move to release Joey Wendle left him as the closest thing the Mets had to a backup at second and short. Since Baty joined the Mets on their London trip, he’s played in just four minor league games since getting demoted May 31, though he’s gone 8-for-19 with three homers. It seems quite unlikely that the Mets will ever want to make the switch from Jeff McNeil to Baty at second base, but it’d be nice if Baty could open up the possibility. • On verge of rehab assignment
Polanco (hamstring) is slated to run the bases before Thursday's game against the White Sox and then head out on a rehab assignment, Shannon Drayer of SeattleSports.com reports.

Advice: Polanco has been progressively ramping up his level of activity in recent days, apparently without any setbacks. MLB.com reports that general manager Justin Hollander indicated team trainers would jointly assess Polanco's condition with the veteran infielder following Thursday's activity, at which point the length of the rehab assignment would likely be determined. • Moves to bench against lefty
McKinstry is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Nationals.

Advice: Since Javier Baez sat out Sunday's 10-2 win over the Brewers before being placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with lumbar spine inflammation, McKinstry and Ryan Kreidler have both picked up a pair of starts at shortstop. Though manager A.J. Hinch suggested that the two shortstops wouldn't work in a strict platoon, both of McKinstry's starts have come against right-handed pitching. Kreidler, meanwhile, will start at shortstop Thursday versus lefty Patrick Corbin, after Kreidler was previously included in the lineup Tuesday, when southpaw Mitchell Parker was on the bump for Washington. • Retreating to bench Thursday
Urias is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against Atlanta.

Advice: Urias had started in each of the past four games, but two came while Jorge Mateo was out with a concussion and one came while Jordan Westburg received a rest day. Mateo and Westburg are both in the lineup Thursday and are slated to serve as the Orioles' primary starters at second base and third base, respectively, so Urias' opportunities could become more limited moving forward. • Swipes first bag
Walls went 0-for-2 with two walks, a stolen base and a run scored Wednesday against the Cubs.

Advice: Walls has started five of six games since being activated from the injured list, though he's collected just two hits in 14 at-bats. Positively, he stole his first base of the season Wednesday, suggesting he'll still be willing to run even after returning from a serious hip injury. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:02 am

  • Sitting against left-hander
Keith is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Nationals.

Advice: Southpaw Patrick Corbin is on the bump for the Nationals, so the left-handed-hitting Keith will begin the contest on the bench. Andy Ibanez will handle second base for the Tigers. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:59 am
