• Elects free agency
Crismatt elected free agency on May 17 after refusing an outright assignment by the Dodgers.

Advice: Crismatt accepted an outright assignment by the Dodgers once earlier this season but decided not to do it again. He holds a 2.57 ERA and 6:0 K:BB over seven innings in the majors this season and is now free to sign with another organization. Rotowire.com 38 minutes ago

  • Lands on injured list
Beeter was placed on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday with an unspecified injury, Conor Foley of YES Network reports.

Advice: It's unclear when Beeter suffered the injury, but he last pitched for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on May 15, when he struck out three and walked five over four scoreless innings. The right-hander will be unavailable for at least the next week, but it's unclear when he's expected to return. Rotowire.com 49 minutes ago

  • Records first win Monday
Bazardo (1-0) picked up the win against the Yankees on Monday, allowing an earned run on a hit and a walk over 1.2 innings.

Advice: Bazardo picked up what was a fairly improbable victory, as he actually allowed the Yankees' lead to expand to 4-1 in the eighth after wiggling out of an inherited bases-loaded jam in the seventh by inducing an inning-ending double play from Giancarlo Stanton. However, the Mariners put together a four-run rally in the ninth, giving them a one-run lead that would stick. Bazardo has now allowed at least one run in three of his first four appearances of the season and has issued a walk in all of them, so he remains a shaky option for the time being despite Monday's success. • Slated to return Wednesday
Yankees manager Aaron Boone confirmed in an interview on the Talkin' Yanks podcast of Jomboy Media on Tuesday that Kahnle (shoulder) will be activated from the 15-day injured list Wednesday.

Advice: Boone noted that while he will not use Kahnle on back-to-back days initially, the plan is to deploy the reliever in high-leverage situations right away. Kahnle has been out all season due to a right shoulder injury that dates back to last year. He struck out 11 over five perfect innings on his rehab assignment. Rotowire.com Today, 10:26 am

  • Pirates option Ryder Ryan to Indianapolis
Pirates optioned RHP Ryder Ryan to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Advice: The move clears room on the active roster for Ji-Hwan Bae. Ryan has posted a 14/7 K/BB and 3.46 ERA in 13 MLB innings in 2024, and he should be back at some point this summer. Rotoworld Today, 9:35 am

  • Loses roster spot
The Pirates optioned Ryan to Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday.

Advice: Ryan has mostly been effective, holding a 3.46 ERA and 14:7 K:BB over 13 innings. He has been a bit wild lately, though, including in his last appearance when he walked a pair and allowed a run without recording an out. Ji Hwan Bae will absorb his roster spot. • Returns to mound
Pressly threw a scoreless inning without allowing a baserunner and striking out one Monday against the Angels.

Advice: Pressly was out for the team's weekend series with finger soreness, but he showed no ill effects in his return. He entered the game in the eighth inning with the Astros down three, presumably because the team wanted to get him some work after the layoff. Pressly has struggled a bit of late, allowing an earned run in half of his last four appearances. He has a 5.19 ERA on the season. Rotowire.com Today, 8:22 am

  • Cade Cavalli (elbow) throws 2 /23 scoreless in FCL
Cade Cavalli (elbow) struck out five over 2 2/3 scoreless innings during a rehab start Monday in the Florida Complex League.

Advice: Cavalli allowed one hit and one walk. The right-hander has made steady progress as of late from Tommy John surgery, and he was up to 97 mph while throwing 25-of-44 pitches for strikes. Cavalli will likely need to make a couple more rehab starts at the minimum, but he could be back in the rotation for the Nationals by the end of June. Rotoworld Today, 7:50 am

  • Sharp in first rehab start
Cavalli (elbow) allowed one hit and one walk in 2.2 scoreless innings for the Nationals' Florida Complex League team Monday. He struck out five.

Advice: Seeing his first game action since undergoing Tommy John surgery in March 2023, Cavalli simply overmatched FCL hitters over 44 pitches. The 25-year-old right-hander touched 97 mph with his fastball, per Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports, and the one hit off him came from MLB veteran Jose Abreu. Washington will now have 30 days to decide whether Cavalli is ready to join the big-league rotation in mid-June, but if the front office decided he needs more time to complete his recovery, he could be optioned to Triple-A Rochester. Either way, Cavalli should be back on the 26-man roster some time this summer. Rotowire.com Today, 7:43 am
