• Cleared for activity
Walls (hip) reported to the Rays' spring training facility in Port Charlotte, Fla. earlier this week and will go through workouts for the next 10-to-14 days before beginning a rehab assignment, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Advice: According to Topkin, Walls will be going through a modified version of his own spring training while he builds up stamina and stacks up at-bats as he works his way back from the surgery he required last October to address a labral tear in his right hip. The Rays opted to shut Walls down in late April for two weeks after he experienced renewed inflammation in his hip, and the 27-year-old seemingly responded well to the extra time off. Since he's been on the injured list all season, Walls will presumably in store for an extended minor-league rehab assignment, making it unlikely that he's activated before the end of May. Whenever he's ready to go, Walls could threaten Jose Caballero for everyday duties at shortstop. Rotowire.com 50 minutes ago

  • Scoreless rehab frame Tuesday
Alexander (ribs) fired a scoreless seventh inning in Triple-A Las Vegas' win over El Paso on Tuesday, recording a strikeout.

Advice: The left-hander had failed to record an out while giving up five total runs in his most recent rehab outing Friday, so the scoreless frame Tuesday was a particularly welcome sight. Alexander might be ready to return from his long IL stint at any moment, and perhaps Tuesday's clean outing will qualify as the final box that needed checking before the Athletics deem him ready for activation. • Junior Caminero playing 2B on Tuesday at Triple-A
Rays top prospect Junior Caminero is playing second base on Tuesday for Triple-A Durham.

Advice: It’s a significant development for fantasy purposes as it could expedite Caminero’s return to the majors and open up additional avenues to get his bat in the lineup everyday. The 20-year-old, who entered Tuesday night batting .304 with six homers and one steal in 103 plate appearances over 23 contests this season for Triple-A Durham, hasn’t made an appearance at the keystone since back in 2022. It might also shed some light on Brandon Lowe’s status after he was lifted from a rehab contest earlier this week for precautionary reasons due to oblique discomfort. The Rays are currently rolling with Richie Palacios at second base in the majors right now. It feels like only a matter of time before Caminero is back in Tampa Bay. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:01 pm
  • Cora: Vaughn Grissom lost 14 pounds while sick
Red Sox manager Alex Cora told reporters Tuesday that Vaughn Grissom lost 14 pounds due to illness earlier this month.

Advice: This certainly helps explain some of his struggles out of the gate as he’s batting .152 (5-for-33) with one extra-base hit and two RBI through eight games in his Red Sox debut. It’s been a strange few injury-plagued months for the 23-year-old middle infielder since arriving in Boston in the Chris Sale trade. If he can get back into a normal routine for a few weeks, it could help him re-discover his form at the plate. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:37 pm

  • Will return to lineup Wednesday
Phillies manager Rob Thomson said Tuesday that Harper (migraine) will return to the lineup Wednesday against the Mets, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Harper was a late scratch from Tuesday's lineup after he developed a migraine, but his symptoms abated as the game versus the Mets went along and would have been available in a pinch-hitting capacity. He was not used off the bench, as it turned out, but he will be ready to roll for Wednesday's tilt. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:36 pm

  • Expected back Wednesday
Phillies manager Rob Thomson said Tuesday that he expects Realmuto (knee) to return to the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Mets, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Realmuto missed a third straight start Tuesday because of right knee soreness. However, he got in a productive workout pregame, and as long as he doesn't have any sort of setback, it appears he'll be back in there for Wednesday's tilt in Philadelphia. • Called up, could enter rotation
The Athletics recalled Basso from Double-A Midland on Tuesday.

Advice: Despite being lit up for nine earned runs over 2.1 innings in his debut for Triple-A Las Vegas before being moved back to Midland, Basso will make the jump to the majors. He's been far more effective over his six starts for Midland this season, logging a 2.84 ERA and 1.00 WHIP in 25.1 innings. Basso will join the 26-man active roster as a replacement for reliever Easton Lucas, but if he's not needed out of the bullpen over the next couple of days, Basso could be called upon to make a spot start this weekend in Kansas City. Alex Wood remains on the active roster but is tending to a shoulder issue that could force him to the injured list, in which case Basso, Mitch Spence or Kyle Muller would likely be the top candidates to fill his spot in the rotation. • J.T. Realmuto (knee) likely to return Wednesday
Phillies manager Rob Thomson told reporters J.T. Realmuto (knee) will return to the lineup on Wednesday.

Advice: Realmuto sat out Tuesday’s showdown against the Mets at Citi Field due to an ongoing right knee issue, but it sounds like he’ll be ready to go for Wednesday’s matchup, barring something unexpected. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:31 pm

  • Thomson: Bryce Harper to return Wednesday
Phillies manager Rob Thomson told reporters Bryce Harper (migraine) is feeling better and will return on Wednesday.

Advice: Thomson added that Harper’s migraine cleared up during Tuesday afternoon’s contest against the Mets to the point that he was available to pinch-hit. The 31-year-old fantasy superstar should return to Philadelphia’s lineup on Wednesday, barring something unexpected. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:30 pm
