• Varsho blasts ninth home run Thursday
Daulton Varsho went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run against the Tigers on Thursday.

Advice: Varsho came to the plate in a tie game in the seventh inning and hit a two-run home run off Tigers starter Jack Flaherty that put the Blue Jays ahead for good. Varsho is hitting just .213 this year, but he has five stolen bases to go with nine home runs and 27 RBI. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:30 pm

  • Sitting out Thursday
Raleigh is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Yankees.

Advice: Raleigh started the first three games of the series against the Yankees and hit a home run in Wednesday's 7-3 loss, but he'll get a breather for Thursday's afternoon tilt. Seby Zavala will draw the start at catcher. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:16 am

  • Slugs 11th homer
Raleigh went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Wednesday's 7-3 loss to the Yankees.

Advice: Raleigh leads all major-league catchers with 11 homers this season, though he hadn't hit one out since May 11. This was his only hit over 10 at-bats across the last three games after a stretch in which he went 9-for-30 in an eight-game span. Raleigh is up to a .219/.299/.458 slash line with 28 RBI, 24 runs scored, four doubles and no stolen bases over 174 plate appearances this season. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 8:33 pm

  • Launches sixth homer
Verdugo went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 7-3 win over the Mariners.

Advice: All of the Yankees' runs came via the long ball Wednesday, and Verdugo's eighth-inning blast cut off the Mariners' hopes of a comeback. The veteran outfielder has gone 11-for-37 (.297) over his last nine contests, picking up at least one hit in eight of them while adding nine RBI and five doubles. He's slashing .254/.325/.422 with six homers, 26 RBI, 23 runs scored and a stolen base over 197 plate appearances this season. Verdugo won't get the accolades of fellow outfielders Juan Soto and Aaron Judge, but he's been a strong and steady presence as the Yankees' starting left fielder this season. • Finds trouble in fifth inning
Pepiot allowed three runs on two hits, four walks and a hit batsman while striking out three over four-plus innings in a no-decision versus the Red Sox on Wednesday.

Advice: Pepiot returned from a lower left leg contusion that sent him to the injured list. He was cruising through the first four innings, but he put three straight batters on base to begin the fifth. Richard Lovelady couldn't slow down the Boston offense, leaving Pepiot to settle for a no-decision. The 26-year-old right-hander threw just 37 of 66 pitches for strikes in his return from injury. Pepiot now has a 3.98 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 44:15 K:BB over 40.2 innings across eight starts. It's unclear if his limited workload came from a pitch count or just the natural flow of the game. He's projected to make his next start at home versus the Athletics. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 7:27 pm

  • Daulton Varsho triples, scores twice vs. White Sox
Daulton Varsho went 1-for-3 with a triple, two runs scored, two RBI, and two walks against the White Sox on Wednesday.

Advice: After drawing a walk in the first inning, Varsho brought two runs in to score on a triple in the second. After walking once again in the fourth, he crossed home plate on a base hit by Bo Bichette. The 27-year-old outfielder is slashing .212/.304/.444 with eight homers, 28 runs scored, 25 RBI, and five steals across 171 plate appearances. Rotoworld Wednesday, 7:15 pm

  • Cal Raleigh tags three-run homer in loss
Cal Raleigh went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run on Wednesday in a loss to the Yankees.

Advice: The Orioles offense was quiet all night besides Raleigh’s blast. He golfed a changeup from Luke Weaver, which has been one of the best individual pitches in baseball this season, just barely over the right-field fence for his 11th long ball of the season. It would’ve been a homer in fewer than half of the league’s stadiums, but this was the only one that mattered. Rotoworld Wednesday, 7:12 pm

  • Ryan Pepiot shaky in return
Ryan Pepiot allowed three earned runs across four innings in his return to the Rays’ rotation. He walked four and struck out three against the Red Sox on Wednesday.

Advice: Pepiot had been on the shelf since May 5th after a Starling Marte line drive struck his leg and sent him to the IL. He was cruising early, but unraveled a bit in the fifth inning allowing the first three batters to reach base before being pulled. Both of his inherited runners came around to score. Pepiot leaned on his fastball, throwing it for two thirds of his pitches, and didn’t seem to have the best feel of his slider as the Red Sox swung and missed at it just once. • Comes up short in first loss
Skubal (6-1) took the loss Wednesday as the Tigers were downed 8-3 by the Royals, giving up four runs on six hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out six.

Advice: In a matchup of elite southpaws, Skubal wasn't able to keep pace with Cole Ragans and failed to complete six innings for only the second time this season in 10 starts, while tying his season high in runs allowed. Skubal also served up a solo shot to Nelson Velazquez in the fourth inning, just the fourth homer off him in 60 innings. Skubal will take a 2.25 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 72:10 K:BB into his next outing, which lines up to come at home next week against the Pirates. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 6:26 pm
