  • Paul Dejong gets a day off on Thursday
    Paul Dejong is not in the lineup for the White Sox on Thursday against the Astros.

    Advice: Dejong will take a seat with Nicky Lopez sliding over to shortstop and Danny Mendick playing second base. The veteran is having a great month of June, hitting .246 with six home runs, nine runs, and 11 RBI in 17 games. The power is obviously really nice, but the poor team context around him is keeping his counting stats a little low given his home run total. He has also never hit for a high batting average and is still under .250 even with the power, so he’s really just an add if you’re looking for home runs from your middle infield spot.     Willy Adames went 1-for-2 with an RBI and two walks in the Brewers’ 2-0 win over the Angels on Wednesday.

    Advice: Adames drew walks in the first and third innings, then gave the Brewers an insurance run in the eighth with a base hit to drive in Christian Yelich from second base.   • Ready for live at-bats
    Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Sunday that Edman (wrist) is expected to report to the rookie-level Florida Complex League or Single-A Palm Beach this week to take some at-bats and get in some defensive reps, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

    Advice: Mamol didn't explicitly say that Edman will begin a formal rehab assignment, so the 29-year-old may just be participating in simulated games this week at the Cardinals' spring facility in Florida. In any case, the activity marks another important step in the recovery process for Edman, who has been out all season while he ramps back up from October wrist surgery. Edman won a Gold Glove at second base in 2021 and logged 46 starts at shortstop in 2023, but the outfield might represent his clearest path to consistent playing time once he returns from the 60-day injured list. The shortstop is now up to 14 home runs on the campaign, with six of them coming this month and four coming over his last eight games.
