    • Expected to resume mound work
Pirates director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk said Friday that Perez (groin) will likely resume throwing off the slope of a mound this weekend, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Perez was placed on the 15-day injured list May 28 with a left groin strain, which he sustained while covering first base on a play during his last start May 26. Tomczyk noted that Perez is pain-free in all of his rehab activities and has been throwing off flat ground without restrictions, so the southpaw looks like he'll soon be able to move on to the next phase of his rehab by throwing a bullpen session. Perez is without a defined target date for a return from the IL, but he's likely at least a week away from being activated. Rotowire.com 20 minutes ago

    • Picks up victory Friday
Grove (4-2) pitched a perfect inning to earn the win in relief against the Yankees on Friday.

Advice: Neither team was able to score through nine innings, pushing the contest into extra frames. The Dodgers failed to score in the top of the 10th, but Grove was able to extend the game by keeping the Yankees from scoring in the bottom of that inning. The right-hander then moved into position for the win as a result of Los Angeles scoring twice in the top of the 11th. Grove still has an uninspiring 4.59 ERA on the campaign, but he's been pitching well since the end of April. Over his past 15 outings, he holds a 2.20 ERA, 0.80 WHIP and 21:6 K:BB across 16.1 frames while recording four wins and four holds. Rotowire.com 57 minutes ago

    • Reid Detmers allows seven runs in Triple-A debut
Reid Detmers allowed seven runs over five innings on Friday for Triple-A Salt Lake.

Advice: Yikes. The positive takeaway here is that Detmers recorded eight strikeouts and didn’t hand out a free pass. The 24-year-old talented southpaw was jettisoned to the minors earlier this month to give him some space to work on things. Simply put, he remains a work in progress. Rotoworld Today, 6:36 am

    • Inefficient in no-decision
Poteet came away with a no-decision in Friday's 2-1 extra-innings loss to the Dodgers, allowing two hits and three walks over 4.2 scoreless innings. He struck out one.

Advice: The 29-year-old right-hander kept a dangerous offense off the board, but he needed 84 pitches (50 strikes) to record only 14 outs, and the Yankees' bullpen eventually faltered in the 11th inning. Poteet has a 1.72 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 11:4 K:BB through 15.2 innings over his three big-league starts this season, but with Gerrit Cole (elbow) set to make his second rehab start Sunday, his time in the New York rotation is running short. Poteet should make at least one more start, which lines up to come on the road next week in Kansas City. Rotowire.com Today, 6:12 am

    • Hogan Harris continues strong stretch on Friday
Hogan Harris tossed six scoreless innings on Friday in a no-decision against the Blue Jays.

Advice: Harris has been quietly effective for the Athletics over the last few weeks, allowing just one earned run over 11 2/3 innings in a pair of starts since May 30. He struck out three and allowed just five baserunners (three hits and a pair of walks) over six shutout frames in this one, but was forced to settle for a no-decision after Oakland’s bullpen gave up the lead. The unheralded 27-year-old lefty will bring a sparkling 2.21 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 18/8 K/BB ratio across 20 1/3 innings (four appearances, two starts) into a road tilt on Wednesday afternoon against the Padres. • Restarts rehab assignment
Springs (elbow) threw one inning at the Florida Complex League on Friday, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Springs returned to the mound for the first since feeling tightness in his shoulder May 25. He labored through a 24-pitch frame, but most importantly felt healthy after the outing. The Rays intend for Springs to throw two innings with Triple-A Durham on Wednesday. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:56 pm

    • Making progress
McCullers (forearm) threw 25 pitches off the bullpen mound Thursday, MLB.com reports.

Advice: McCullers has been ramping up his activity since mid-April, and he managed to throw both sinkers and changeups in addition to his fastball Thursday. He's behind teammate Luis Garcia (elbow) in his recovery, but McCullers could be activated from the injured list at some point in August. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:44 pm
    • Blasted for eight runs
Lynch did not factor into the decision in Friday's victory over Seattle, allowing eight runs on six hits and four walks over four innings. He struck out four.

Advice: Lynch stumbled out the gate immediately as he yielded seven runs in the first inning, capped by a titanic 421-foot, two-run homer by Ryan Bliss. The Kansas City southpaw entered the contest with a sterling 1.50 ERA, which ballooned to 5.63 after his eight-run performance. Lynch's next outing doesn't look any easier as he's tentatively slated to face the vaunted Yankees lineup at home. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:43 pm
    • Throws live BP
Garcia (elbow) threw a 25-pitch live batting practice session Friday, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Garcia took another step forward after throwing a simulated inning one week prior to Friday's session. He's expected to report to Houston's spring training facility in the next few days, where he'll throw two or three more live batting practices. Assuming Garcia feels okay after that, he's expected to begin a rehab assignment. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:41 pm
