    • Manny Machado swats two-run HR in victory
Manny Machado hit a two-run homer in a victory over the Diamondbacks on Friday.

Advice: Machado extended the Padres’ lead to 7-0 with a two-run shot in the fifth. The third baseman also drew a walk, and it helps his improve his slash to .250/.306/.403 over 124 at-bats. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:25 pm

    • José Soriano fires six scoreless to beat Guardians
José Soriano delivered a strong performance in Friday night’s victory over the Guardians, allowing just five hits over six innings of shutout baseball.

Advice: The 25-year-old hurler punched out three batters on the evening while allowing one base on balls. All five of the hits that he allowed were singles. The only real threat against him came in the fifth inning as the Guardians put runners at first and third with one out, but he got Brayan Rocchio on a comebacker to the mound and ultimately retired Andres Gimenez on strikes to end the threat. Soriano got 10 whiffs on 88 pitches on the night, posting a CSW of 26 percent. He’ll attempt to further improve upon his 3.77 ERA and 1.29 WHIP when he does battle against the Pirates in Pittsburgh on Wednesday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:33 pm

    • Jason Foley implodes in ninth inning on Friday
Jason Foley suffered a brutal blown save against the Yankees on Friday night, surrendering hits to all four batters that he faced.

Advice: Yikes. In what was a terrific pitcher’s duel that had the Tigers leading 1-0 heading to the ninth inning, Foley immediately got off on the wrong foot by allowing a leadoff single to Aaron Judge. Alex Verdugo then dropped down a bunt single with third baseman Zach McKinstry playing back, setting the stage for Giancarlo Stanton. Stanton then ripped an RBI double into right field on the second pitch he saw, and Anthony Rizzo followed with a run-scoring single to walk it off. Foley is probably still fine in the ninth inning, as he has converted nine of his first 10 save chances, though his 1.54 WHIP leads much to be desired. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:13 pm
    • Michael Lorenzen holds Royals to one run over six
Michael Lorenzen surrendered one run over six innings without factoring into the decision Friday against the Royals.

Advice: Lorenzen and Brady Singer were both excellent in what was a pitching duel for the first six innings. Lorenzen allowed just four hits, and while he did walk three, he was able to escape jams outside of a homer from Hunter Renfroe in the fifth. The 32-year-old bounced back from his five-run outing against the Reds last week, and it lowers his ERA on the season to 3.52. Lorenzen is obviously worth consideration next week against the Athletics. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:10 pm
    • Throws BP session
Kershaw (shoulder) threw a bullpen session Friday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Kershaw has been limited to throwing from flat ground, and Friday was the first time he's thrown off the mound since undergoing offseason shoulder surgery. The veteran southpaw threw 15 pitches ahead of Friday's game against Atlanta, and manager Dave Roberts said Kershaw "came out well" from the bullpen session, per J.P. Hoornstra of Dodgers Nation. Kershaw is not expected to return until after the All-Star break, but it's another positive step in his rehab program. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:25 pm

    • Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) throws first bullpen
Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) threw his first bullpen session on Friday since undergoing surgery on his left shoulder.

Advice: The 36-year-old southpaw looks to be right on schedule in his recovery. The Dodgers have yet to give any sort of concrete timeline on when they anticipate him being ready to join the rotation, though the early estimates were at some point around the All-Star break. As long as he continues to progress, there’s no reason to doubt that timeline. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:24 pm

    • Activated, batting seventh in debut
Grissom (hamstring/illness) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list and is starting at second base Friday against the Twins.

Advice: The 23-year-old is recovered from a bout with the flu and has joined the Red Sox a few days later than initially expected. Grissom has a career .287/.339/.407 slash line in 64 big-league games and should see plenty of playing time at the keystone for the Red Sox. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:35 pm

    • Red Sox activate Vaughn Grissom for 2024 debut
Red Sox activated INF Vaughn Grissom from the 10-day injured list.

Advice: As expected, the Red Sox will have their dynamic 23-year-old infielder on the field for the first time of the season on Friday night against the Twins. He’ll be starting at second base and batting seventh against Twins’ right-hander Chris Paddack. Grissom hit .333/.444/.400 with a pair of RBI and two stolen bases in 36 plate appearances during his minor league rehab assignment at Triple-A Worcester. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:22 pm

    • Could piggyback another starter
The Phillies are considering piggybacking Turnbull with another starter, Corey Seidman of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.

Advice: Turnbull's stint in the Phillies' rotation was supposed to be temporary while Taijuan Walker (shoulder) worked his way back. However, Turnbull has pitched so well -- posting a 1.67 ERA and 36:10 K:BB in 32.1 innings -- that the club is considering ways to keep him in its rotation even with Walker back in the fold. A six-man rotation hasn't been ruled out, although manager Rob Thomson has indicated it's unlikely. More likely, it seems, is that Turnbull and another starter -- either Walker or Cristopher Sanchez -- are used in tandem, with the decision on who would start and who would be in long relief that day depending on the opposition. Turnbull could still eventually shift to the bullpen -- he hasn't thrown more than 56.2 innings in a season since 2019 -- but it doesn't sound like that's going to happen yet. Thomson has indicated that he could make an announcement regarding his rotation plans as soon as Friday. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:00 pm
