    • Stuck with loss in return
Montas (2-3) took the loss Tuesday against the Diamondbacks, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and one walk over six innings. He struck out seven.

Advice: Montas wound up spending the minimum 15 days on the IL after he was struck by a line drive in his last start, resulting in a bruised forearm. The 31-year-old right-hander was sharp in his return, though he'd ultimately wind up with the loss as the Reds' offense couldn't break through against Zac Gallen. Montas now sports a 3.55 ERA with a 1.30 WHIP and 21:11 K:BB across his first six starts (25.1 innings) with Cincinnati. He's currently lined up for a road matchup with the Giants on Sunday in his next outing. Rotowire.com 16 minutes ago

    • Luis Gil handles Astros in win on Tuesday
Luis Gil allowed one run on one hit in six innings in a win over the Astros.

Advice: Gil was effectively wild on Tuesday, which is something we’ve come to expect from the 25-year-old. He walked four on the day and had just a 42 percent zone rate; however, he also had a 23 percent whiff rate and struck out five batters. Much of Gil’s success came on the changeup which had a 40 percent whiff rate, while his four-seam fastball was his most effective strike pitch. At some point, Gil is not going to be able to keep walking this tightrope, but he has a 2.92 ERA on the season and has two solid outings coming up against the Rays and White Sox. • Montas takes tough luck loss in return from IL
Frankie Montas allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits in six innings in a loss to the Diamondbacks on Tuesday.

Advice: Montas was sharp in his return from the IL, striking out seven and walking just one. He allowed just one extra-base hit on the day and his two runs were driven in on a fielder’s choice and single to score a runner who was only on because of an Elly De La Cruz error. Montas was throwing two mph harder on every pitch in his arsenal; however, he was only able to get strikeouts on his splitter and registered a 25 percent CSW. It feels a little bit like Montas will still go as far as his splitter will take him, which makes him a risky proposition in fantasy leagues but one you can likely start against the Giants this weekend. • Ramirez has three-hit game in loss Tuesday
Jose Ramirez went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored in the loss to the Tigers on Tuesday.

Advice: Ramirez increased his average to .245 on the season. His .231 BABIP is well below his career .280 BABIP. Despite the low average so far for the career .278 hitter, Ramirez has still managed 24 runs, seven home runs and 30 RBI in 35 games this year. Rotoworld Today, 6:15 pm

    • Gerrit Cole throws another bullpen session Tuesday
Gerrit Cole (elbow) threw a bullpen session on Tuesday.

Advice: Cole is scheduled to throw another bullpen session this weekend and is apparently looking at a mid-June return timetable at this point. The 33-year-old reigning AL Cy Young Award winner should progress to facing hitters at some point in the coming weeks before heading out on a minor league rehab assignment. • Shane Baz (elbow) makes rehab start at Triple-A
Shane Baz (elbow) allowed three runs over three innings last Saturday in a minor league rehab start for Triple-A Durham.

Advice: Baz has finally progressed to rehab outings after missing the first couple weeks of the year due to ongoing elbow and oblique issues. He topped out at 97 mph on his fastball and threw 39 pitches in his rehab debut. The 24-year-old righty is expected to be an option for Tampa Bay’s starting rotation at some point this summer, but remains without a definitive return target date as he continues to work his way back from Tommy John surgery. • Bryan Bello returning Sunday against Nationals
Bryan Bello (lat) struck out five over 2 2/3 innings on Tuesday in a minor league rehab start for Double-A Portland.

Advice: Bello told reporters following the 52-pitch rehab outing that he’ll start on Sunday against the Nationals at Fenway Park instead of making any additional rehab tune-ups. The 24-year-old righty has been out since late April due to right lat tightness. Rotoworld Today, 4:54 pm

    • Returning Sunday
Bello (lat) said Tuesday that he will start Sunday's game against the Nationals, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.

Advice: Bello made a rehab appearance Tuesday at Double-A Portland, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits and two walks while striking out five batters across 2.2 innings. Despite his unremarkable performance, the right-hander said he came away from the start without any pain and is ready to return to Boston's rotation. Bello holds a 3.04 ERA and 1.05 WHIP across 26.2 innings so far this year. Rotowire.com Today, 4:25 pm

    • Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) throws bullpen session
Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) threw a 20-pitch bullpen session on Tuesday.

Advice: It was Kershaw’s second bullpen session since undergoing offseason left shoulder surgery. The 36-year-old future Hall of Fame southpaw is targeting a midseason return to Los Angeles’ starting rotation mix and remains a viable option for fantasy managers on a per-start basis, when healthy.
