  • Polanco has RBI single in loss
Jorge Polanco went 2-for-4 with an RBI single in a loss to the White Sox on Friday.

Advice: Polanco has received an opportunity to serve as the starting shortstop down the stretch and has posted a solid .283/.336/.418 batting line for the year. The big question is whether he has shown enough defensively to stick there. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 10:27 pm
  • Ryan Schimpf hits 20th homer
Ryan Schimpf hit homer No. 20 in a losing cause Friday against the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Schimpf had been stuck on 19 homers for 16 days, far and away his longest drought since he went his first 18 days in the majors without one. He's hitting just .221 in his 87 games, but he's slugging a very robust .540. It should ensure that he enters next year with a starting job, probably at second base. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 9:59 pm
  • Gyorko socks his 29th homer Friday
Jedd Gyorko socked a solo homer and drew a walk in Friday’s win over the Pirates.

Advice: Gyorko was acquired from the Padres over the winter to serve in a utility infielder role this season, but he leads the Cardinals with 29 homers. 22 of them have come in the second half. Only Brian Dozier has hit more homers in that time. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 9:57 pm

  • Evan Longoria plates lone run in loss Friday
Evan Longoria went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and plated the Rays' lone run in Friday's loss to the Rangers.

Advice: The 30-year-old has had a terrific season in the middle of the Rays lineup, slashing .276/.321/.526 with 36 homers and 97 RBI. He needs three more RBI over the weekend to hit the 100-RBI plateau for the first time since 2010. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 8:28 pm
  • Jed Lowrie had an additional surgery
In addition to surgery on his left foot, Jed Lowrie also recently had an operation for a deviated septum.

Advice: "I didn’t think anything of it, and then I saw an ear, nose and throat specialist and it turns out it wasn’t just a deviated septum, there were also two bone spurs," Lowrie said. "My sleep had been messed up for a long time, I realized." The additional surgery doesn't change Lowrie's rehab schedule. He's expected to be ready to go for spring training.
