  • Mariners call up Montgomery for MLB debut
Mariners recalled LHP Mike Montgomery from Triple-A Tacoma.

Advice: Montgomery will make his major league debut Tuesday at home against the Yankees and could be up for an extended period if the outing goes well. The 25-year-old left-hander has lost his top-prospect status, but he's put up a decent 3.74 ERA and 47/15 K/BB ratio in 53 innings this season at the Triple-A level. There may be some value here for deep mixed-leaguers.

  • Zimmermann blanks Jays over eight in win
Jordan Zimmermann spun eight scoreless innings in a 2-0 win over the Blue Jays in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader.

Advice: Zimmermann ran into a bit of trouble in the seventh by loading the bases, but he was able to induce a key double play grounder to get out of the jam. Otherwise, he cruised, scattering six hits to go with one walk and four strikeouts. Zimmermann has allowed just six runs combined over his last six starts, lowering his ERA from 4.88 to 2.88 in the process. He lines up for a start against the Cubs this weekend.

  • Mejia set to return to U.S. soon
Jenrry Mejia is slated to return to the United States in about 10 days to begin a throwing program.

Advice: Mejia was placed on the disabled list in early April due to right elbow inflammation before being handed an 80-game PED suspension. He'll be eligible to return on July 7 and Mets manager Terry Collins said Monday that they'll find a spot for him in their bullpen.

  • Cole fires seven solid innings to beat Giants
Gerrit Cole allowed only a pair of unearned runs over seven innings to pick up his eighth win of the season against the Giants on Monday.

Advice: Jung Ho Kang's fielding error and a wild pitch contributed to the Giants scoring twice in the first inning. Cole settled down from there, limiting the Giants to five hits and a pair of walks while striking out nine. The 24-year-old has been among baseball's best, now 8-2 with a 1.90 ERA, a 1.08 WHIP, and a 79/16 K/BB ratio over 71 innings. Cole will take the hill against the Braves in Atlanta next.

  • Tejada stays hot, gets three hits to beat SDP
Ruben Tejada had three hits and scored twice in five at-bats as the Mets took down the Padres on Monday.

Advice: Tejada now has three multi-hit games out of his last four. He doubled and scored in the first inning, then singled and scored in the fifth. Tejada was recently anointed the club's regular third baseman by manager Terry Collins. He has good job security as long as David Wright is out and he's hitting. Tejada is batting .274/.357/.419 with eight RBI and nine runs scored in 70 plate appearances.
