    • Jeff Samardzija shut out the Rangers for eight innings on Wednesday, striking out 10, but he was left with a no-decision when the bullpen imploded in a 6-1 loss.
Advice: A crushing loss for the A's, who gave up six runs in the top of the ninth inning against a 58-92 team. The heartbreaker allowed the Angels to clinch the AL West for the first time since 2009. As for Samardzija, he must feel like he's pitching for the Cubs again. He's hurled 15 shutout innings over his past two starts and emerged with a pair of no-decisions. Overall, he's 6-12 with a 2.98 ERA and 1.07 WHIP.

    • Jeff Samardzija blanked the White Sox for seven innings on Wednesday, only to come away with a no-decision.
Advice: Samardzija must feel like he's still pitching for the Cubs. He left with a 1-0 lead tonight, only to see that thrown away in a very sloppy eighth inning. Samardzija has a 3.41 ERA and a strong 0.97 WHIP for the A's, but all it's gotten him is a 4-5 record.

    • Denard Span was held hitless over five at-bats, but the Nationals were still able to send the Marlins to a defeat on Thursday.
Advice: The words "Denard Span" and "hitless" haven't often been used together lately. He was on a nine-game hitting streak and had hit safely in 16 of his last 18 games entering the contest. Span has turned in a solid season, batting .296/.349/.409 with 93 runs scored and 31 stolen bases.

    • Nolan Arenado (pneumonia) could miss the rest of the season.
Advice: Arenado came out of Sunday's game with a chest contusion and an MRI on Monday revealed signs of pneumonia. He's doing better, but there just might not be enough time for him to make it back at this point.

    • Nolan Arenado will undergo an MRI on his chest Monday.
Advice: Arenado left Sunday's game with what the Rockies referred to as a chest contusion. The club doesn't expect the injury to be serious, but we won't know for sure until the MRI comes back. Consider Arenado day-to-day until further notice.

    • Nolan Arenado is day-to-day after leaving Sunday's game with a chest contusion.
Advice: With the Rockies home all week, Arenado needs to be kept active in fantasy leagues.

    • Nolan Arenado had an RBI double Friday against the Cardinals.
Advice: It was the only offense of the game for the Rockies and ended a 21-inning scoreless drought for the club. Arenado is batting a modest .216 (8-for-37) this month, but he collected four home runs and eight RBI along the way. Not surprisingly, the 23-year-old has produced significantly better at home than on the road this season, but he still figures to begin 2015 as a top-12 third baseman in mixed fantasy leagues.
