    • Stephen Vogt (ankle) is out of the A's starting lineup again on Thursday versus the Rangers.
Advice: Vogt hasn't started in over two weeks because of a sprained left ankle. He was able to pinch-hit Wednesday, but Billy Burns pinch-ran for Vogt after he drew a walk in the bottom of the eighth inning.

    • Stephen Vogt (ankle) took batting practice Tuesday.
Advice: It came after he did some running Monday, though he's yet to be cleared to run the bases. He's encouraged by how his sprained left ankle has responded and could be available to pinch-hit in a few days.

    • Stephen Vogt (ankle) is unlikely to be ready to return for Tuesday's series opener against the Rangers.
Advice: Vogt has been able to take swings in the batting cages in recent days, but is still bothered too much by his sore ankle to run the bases at full strength. Even if he does return at some point next week, he is likely to play only sporadically which makes it difficult to trust him in weekly formats.

    • Stephen Vogt (ankle) might be available at some point during the Athletics' September 16-24 homestand.
Advice: Vogt took some swings in the batting cage Wednesday but is still bothered by a sprained left ankle. He hasn't played since September 3 and can't be counted on for the rest of the season. "It was a pretty significant sprain," manager Bob Melvin said.

    • Cole Hamels painted seven innings of one-run ball as the Phillies sunk the Padres 5-2 on Wednesday.
Advice: Hamels struck out nine, walked one and scattered seven hits. Only Cameron Maybin's RBI single in the fourth, which gave San Diego a 1-0 lead, did any damage. Fortunately for Hamels, his teammates had his back and scored four runs in the top half of the next frame. Hamels, who improved to 9-7 with a 2.47 ERA, will be in Miami next time around.

    • Cole Hamels racked up six strikeouts over seven innings in a no-decision against the Marlins on Friday.
Advice: Hamels surrendered just one run on nine hits and a walk in his seven frames. As anticipated, the veteran southpaw has bounced back in a huge way after a disappointing 2013 campaign, and now sports a 2.51 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 178/56 K/BB ratio over 182 2/3 innings. He'll again look to earn his ninth victory when he takes on the Padres in San Diego on Wednesday.

    • C.J. Cron went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer in a win over the Mariners on Wednesday.
Advice: Cron had gone 1-for-10 with zero RBI in his previous five games since going deep for the last time. At this point in his career, Cron is a bit of an all-or-nothing proposition. The .482 slugging percentage is spectacular, but he'll want to get on base at a better than .301 clip in future campaigns.

    • C.J. Cron returned to action on Friday and went 0-for-3 against the Astros.
Advice: Cron had been out with a sore wrist. He'll likely head back to the bench versus righty Scott Feldman on Saturday, but he should get another start versus left-hander Dallas Keuchel on Sunday.

    • C.J. Cron has been unavailable the last few days due to a sore wrist.
Advice: He's expected to be available to play this weekend. Cron is hitting .276/.306/.481 with 10 homers and 32 RBI over 67 games for the Angels this season.
