    • Matt Carpenter has hit safely in all but two May games.
Advice: The young infielder is third in the NL with 33 runs scored. Carpenter's slash line of .263/.333/.442 in April was solid, but he's really turned up the heat in May, batting .375/.470/.482. If Carpenter can convert some of his doubles (14) into home runs (three), he'll eradicate a fantasy weakness to this point. Despite his hot stick, Carpenter has driven in only 14 runs. He's not a threat to run, either.

    • Angel Pagan left Sunday's game with flu-like symptons.
Advice: Pagan was taken out of the game in the fifth inning and replaced by Andres Torres. He won't require an extended absence and could return to the Giants' lineup Monday.

    • Angel Pagan went 3-for-5 with two doubles Wednesday, but the Giants lost to the Blue Jays.
Advice: Pagan has had a subpar season thus far by his standards, but he's still contributing by getting on base and scoring runs. The outfielder should start to steal more bases and hit for a higher average as the season wears on.

    • Jason Kubel (quad) will return to the Diamondbacks' lineup Sunday.
Advice: Kubel still isn't totally over his left quad injury, so the club is taking it easy with him. He might continue to see more days off than normal as he tries to put the malady behind him.

  • Fri, May 17
    • Jason Kubel has been out of the starting lineup the past two games after aggravating his left quadriceps injury.
Advice: The injury forced him onto the disabled list earlier this season. "Just trying to get over that," Kubel said. "We decided to give it a few days rest." Kubel was batting .333/.375/.600 with two homers and six RBI before going down with the injury on April 9 and he's struggled mightily since, batting .167 since his activation. Arizona begins a three-game series Friday against Florida and Kubel's former Twins teammate Kevin Slowey. Cody Ross and A.J. Pollock will pick up additional at-bats if Kubel can't play.
