    • Joe Musgrove lands on IL with triceps tendinitis
Padres placed RHP Joe Musgrove on the 15-day injured list with right triceps tendinitis.

Advice: Musgrove lasted just two starts before a reccurrance of the triceps issue that sent him to the injured list at the outset of May winds up putting him back on the shelf. Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune adds that Musgrove’s triceps issue “is not believed at this time to be a season-ending injury.” It certainly doesn’t sound great and fantasy managers should anticipate Musgrove requiring a lengthy absence. There should be some clarity on his status in the coming days once he undergoes some additional imaging to determine whether he’s dealing with any structural damage. Stay tuned. • Elbow issues return
The Padres placed Musgrove on the 15-day injured list Saturday with a right elbow injury, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Advice: Musgrove was originally slated to start Saturday against the Royals, but he will now return to the injured list after experiencing further issues with his right elbow/triceps. The 31-year-old was able to return from the IL after 16 days following his first encounter with elbow problems in May, but the Padres will likely bring him back slower this time around to ensure his elbow is back to 100 percent the next time he takes the mound. Randy Vasquez was recalled from Triple-A to start in Musgrove's place Saturday and will likely remain in the Padres' rotation until Musgrove is able to return. Rotowire.com 20 minutes ago

    • Scratched from start
Musgrove will not start as scheduled Saturday against the Royals.

Advice: The Padres recalled Randy Vasquez from Triple-A El Paso to start Saturday's contest, causing Musgrove's next start to be pushed back. It's unclear whether the 31-year-old is dealing with an injury or the Padres simply want to give him some extra rest, but the team should offer some clarity in the near future. • Joe Musgrove scratched from Saturday start
Joe Musgrove has been scratched from Saturday’s start against the Royals.

Advice: No word yet on the reason for the move yet. It’ll be Randy Vásquez taking the ball on Saturday afternoon in his absence against the Royals. There should be an update on his status shortly. Rotoworld 48 minutes ago

    • Hangs on for ninth save
Duran picked up the save Thursday against the Royals, allowing two unearned runs on a hit and a walk in the ninth inning.

Advice: Protecting a three-run lead in the ninth inning, Duran would allow a pair of runs on Bobby Witt's two-out single following a walk and a Carlos Santana error. However, Duran would coax a game-ending groundout from Vinnie Pasquantino, earning his ninth save in as many chances to open the year. While he's been a bit shaky of late, Duran's now gone five appearances (4.1 innings) without allowing an earned run. His ERA is down to 3.21 with a 1.21 WHIP despite him averaging just 8.36 K/9, down from his career mark of 11.63. Rotowire.com Thursday, 4:15 pm

    • Duran picks up ninth save Thursday
Jhoan Duran allowed two runs (none earned) and picked up the save against the Royals on Thursday.

Advice: The save was Duran’s ninth of the year. A missed catch error on first baseman Carlos Santana made the two runs that scored on Bobby Witt Jr.’s single unearned. With nine saves already, Duran remains perfect in save opportunities this year. He has rewarded patient fantasy managers that drafted the closer who was injured to begin the season.

    • Rosenthal: Luzardo “likely to be traded”
According to Ken Rosenthal, Jesús Luzardo “is the single player most likely to be traded” this season.

Advice: Luzardo was a popular name in trade rumors in the offseason but was ultimately not moved. He has two more arbitration years before he becomes a free agent, so the Marlins should be able to get a decent return for him. In a year where they are not contending, it makes sense to see what they could get for the lefty, especially with Sandy Alcantara, Max Meyer, Eury Perez, Edward Cabrera, Braxton Garrett, and Ryan Weathers all able to take on a full workload in the rotation next season. • No run support in loss
Luzardo (2-4) took the loss Tuesday against the Marlins, allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out four in six innings.

Advice: Luzardo managed to reach six innings for a third consecutive start, but never had a shot for a win after the Marlins were shut out. The Padres quickly got to him in the first with a two-run blast from Jurickson Profar and then Profar notched another RBI in the fifth. It was the first time Luzardo has allowed runs in the opening frame this season. The 26-year-old will carry a 4.18 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 50:16 K:BB (51.2 innings) into his next start against the Rays next week. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 7:46 am

    • Jesús Luzardo takes loss following quality start
Jesús Luzardo lost Tuesday after allowing three runs in six innings against the Padres.

Advice: Even a third straight scoreless outing wouldn’t have gotten Luzardo a win tonight, as the Marlins were shut out by the Padres. At this point, Luzardo is just playing out the string until an inevitable midseason trade. He’ll take a 2-4 record and a 4.18 ERA into his next start versus the Rays. Rotoworld Tuesday, 9:13 pm
