• Lands two-hit win
Gil (2-1) picked up the win Thursday, allowing two hits and one walk with five strikeouts over 6.1 scoreless innings against Baltimore.

Advice: Gil rebounded from his first bad start of the season, completing six innings for the first time all season while blanking the O's. Gil has allowed three or fewer hits in all but one start this season but has allowed 20 walks in 31 innings, leading to an overall ERA of 3.19. The 26-year-old has been a pleasant surprise in the back end of the Yankees rotation and could find himself among the elite fantasy pitchers if he can reign in his walk problem. Gil's set to toe the rubber next against the Astros on Tuesday. Rotowire.com Today, 9:43 pm

  • Shines in second big-league start
Munoz (1-0) earned the win over Colorado on Wednesday, allowing one run on three hits and two walks while striking out seven batters over six innings.

Advice: Munoz was recalled from the minors Wednesday to make the start in place of Jesus Luzardo, who is on the IL with an elbow injury. The right-handed rookie was solid in his MLB debut April 20, allowing two runs with seven punchouts over five frames, and he was even better Wednesday, holding the Rockies scoreless until the sixth inning and picking up both his first career victory and first career quality start. Munoz hasn't fared well in Triple-A this season -- he has an ugly 8.62 ERA and 9:14 K:BB over 15.2 frames -- so his success with the Marlins so far is somewhat surprising. That said, he's certainly pitched well enough to earn another start, though his opportunity to do so may depend on when Braxton Garrett (shoulder) is ready to return to the rotation and/or on whether the Marlins prefer to opt for a bullpen game at some point with the team's next off day not slated until May 9. • To be optioned Thursday
The Red Sox will option Valdez to Triple-A Worcester on Thursday, Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe reports.

Advice: After a promising rookie campaign in 2023, Valdez has slashed just .156/.186/.267 across 98 plate appearances in the majors to begin the season and is now in line to return to the minors in an effort to get back on track at the plate. Zack Short -- who was acquired from the Mets on Wednesday -- will be activated Thursday to fill Valdez's roster spot. Rotowire.com Today, 9:28 pm

  • Cut by Halos
The Angels released Hicks on Wednesday.

Advice: After being DFA'd by the Angels on Monday, Hicks will now enter the open market and attempt to latch on with another organization. The 34-year-old outfielder slashed .140/.222/.193 across 63 plate appearances with Los Angeles, though he figures to have little trouble securing at least a minor-league deal with a team in need of organizational depth. • First MLB homer since 2021
Adrianza went 1-for-4 with a solo home run during Wednesday's 2-1 loss to the Phillies.

Advice: Adrianza notched his first round-tripper in 132 at-bats, dating back to October of 2021. After spending early portions of the season in Triple-A Salt Lake, Adrianza was called up on Apr. 21 with Anthony Rendon (hamstring) moved to the IL. Since then, Adrianza has gone 4-for-15 (.267) with three runs scored and two RBI. Rotowire.com Today, 9:11 pm

  • Fans 10 in defeat
Sandoval (1-5) took the loss Wednesday against Philadelphia, allowing two runs on four hits with two walks over five innings. He struck out 10.

Advice: Despite tying for the second most strikeouts of his career and tying his season-best hits allowed total, Sandoval was stuck with his third consecutive loss as the Angels could only muster one run via a solo homer by Ehire Adrianza. He's now in a four-way tie for the most losses in baseball and has yet to complete six innings in a start this year. The southpaw is tentatively scheduled for a start against the Pirates in Pittsburgh on Tuesday. Rotowire.com Today, 8:54 pm

  • Tom Murphy clubs solo homer in loss Wednesday
Tom Murphy clubbed his first home run of the season on Wednesday night, but it wasn’t enough to power the Giants past the Red Sox in Boston.

Advice: Murphy walloped a 407-foot (106.4 mph EV) solo shot off of Kutter Crawford to lead off the third inning, giving the Giants an early 1-0 lead. It would be short-lived. The 33-year-old backstop finished the night 1-for-3 and is now slashing .100/.206/.233 with two RBI through his first 34 plate appearances on the season. Rotoworld Today, 6:59 pm

  • Daulton Jefferies surrenders four runs in loss
Daulton Jefferies was saddled with his second loss of the season on Wednesday, surrendering four runs on five hits over 2 2/3 innings of work against the Red Sox.

Advice: The 28-year-old right-hander took over after Erik Miller worked a scoreless first inning on Wednesday, and it didn’t take him long to surrender the Giants’ early 1-0 lead. He allowed a pair of runs in the third inning on an RBI double by Rafael Devers and a run-scoring ground out by Rob Refsnyder. The Red Sox scratched out two more runs while chasing Jefferies in the fourth inning. With a 17.36 ERA and 3.43 WHIP over 4 2/3 innings in two appearances with the Giants, it seems likely that he’ll be sent right back to Triple-A Sacramento. Rotoworld Today, 6:57 pm
  • José Buttó strikes out six in quality start vs. Cubs
José Buttó allowed one run with six strikeouts across six innings in a loss against the Cubs on Wednesday.

Advice: Buttó was excellent on Wednesday, holding Chicago to just one run in a quality start. A double and a wild pitch put a runner on third in the fifth inning before Pete Crow-Armstrong drove in the run on a sacrifice fly. It was the third time in five starts Buttó has gone six innings with no more than one run allowed. The 26-year-old right-hander ends the day with a 2.57 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, and a 31/14 K/BB ratio across 28 innings. He’ll take on Cardinals in St. Louis on Monday. Rotoworld Today, 6:53 pm
