• Hit hard early in loss
Hicks (4-4) took the loss against the Cardinals on Saturday, allowing five runs on six hits and three walks with one strikeout over four innings.

Advice: Hicks surrendered a two-run home run to Paul Goldschmidt in the first and a three-run homer to Alec Burleson in the fourth before departing with a 5-4 deficit. After tossing five scoreless innings June 17, this was the most earned runs Hicks has allowed in a start this season. The righty has only completed five frames in one of four June outings and has not logged a quality start since April 27. He owns a 3.24 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 69:31 K:BB over 80.2 innings and lines up to start against the Cubs next week. Rotowire.com 4 minutes ago

  • Gives up two earned runs in relief
Howard was charged with three runs (two earned) on four hits and one walk over one inning of relief in Wednesday's 6-5 loss to the Cubs. He recorded three strikeouts.

Advice: After making both of his previous two appearances as a starter, Howard was deployed out of the bullpen behind opening pitcher Erik Miller. Miller left the game after pitching the first inning, then Spencer Bivens, Sean Hjelle and Taylor Rogers worked innings two through six before Howard entered the game in the top of the seventh. Though he worked just one frame, Howard tossed 33 pitches and should remain fairly stretched out if the Giants need to turn to him for a start or a bulk-relief appearance during the team's four-game series against the Cubs to begin the upcoming week. The Giants currently have just two healthy full-time starters (Logan Webb and Jordan Hicks). Rotowire.com 21 minutes ago
  • Opening Sunday
Kelly will serve as the Red Sox opener for Sunday's game against Cincinnati, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.

Advice: Kelly will make his second start of the season Sunday, throwing one-to-two innings before handing the ball off. It's unclear if the Red Sox will commit to a full bullpen game or utilize a bulk reliever, though Chase Anderson would be the likely option to work in bulk behind Kelly. • Called up by Halos
The Angels recalled Zuniga from Triple-A Salt Lake on Saturday.

Advice: With Patrick Sandoval (elbow) hitting the 15-day IL, Zuniga will join the Angels active roster for the first time since suffering a pectoral strain in early April. In four appearances with Los Angeles, Zuniga logged a 7.20 ERA and wasn't much better at Salt Lake, posting a 7.36 ERA in 7.1 innings. Still, he figures to be an option in the back end of the Angels bullpen. Rotowire.com Today, 4:30 pm
  • David Bednar (side) was unavailable on Saturday
Pirates’ manager Derek Shelton told reporters after Saturday’s victory that David Bednar was unavailable due to tightness in his left side.

Advice: It was surprising to see Aroldis Chapman close out a one-run victory for the Pirates against the Rays instead of Bednar, and now we know why. Shelton noted that he doesn’t believe the injury is anything serious, but Bednar’s status should be monitored over the coming days. Those speculating on saves in daily leagues could try to catch lightning in a bottle with Chapman. Rotoworld Today, 4:27 pm

  • Jansen picks up 14th save against Reds Saturday
Kenley Jansen tossed a scoreless ninth inning and picked up the save against the Reds on Saturday.

Advice: Jansen’s save was his 14th of the season. It was his fifth save in the month of June. After another scoreless inning, Jansen’s ERA is down to 2.49 on the season. Rotoworld Today, 4:27 pm
  • Pivetta allows three in no-decision against Reds
Nick Pivetta allowed three runs in 4 1/3 innings and got a no-decision against the Reds on Saturday.

Advice: Pivetta gave up six hits, walked one and struck out five. He was on the hook for the loss before a late comeback by the Red Sox offense. It was another pedestrian start from Pivetta that might be becoming a trend. In his first eight starts of the year, he had 51 strikeouts in 42 1/3 innings. In his last three starts, he’s had just 13 strikeouts in 15 1/3 innings. The 31-year-old right-hander is set to face the Padres at home next weekend.

  • Angels recall Guillo Zuniga from Triple-A
Angels recalled RHP Guillo Zuniga from Triple-A Salt Lake.

Advice: The 25-year-old hurler will add an extra arm to the Angels’ bullpen — at least until they figure out how they plan to fill Patrick Sandoval’s spot in their starting rotation. Zuniga has made four appearances out of the Halos’ bullpen this season, posting a 7.20 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and a 2/4 K/BB ratio across five frames. Rotoworld Today, 4:23 pm
  • Montas allows two in six innings in no-decision
Frankie Montas allowed two runs in six innings and got a no-decision against the Red Sox on Saturday.

Advice: Montas gave up five hits, walked one and struck out four. He was in line for the win until the Reds bullpen gave up the lead in the eighth inning. Montas has now won just one of his last 12 starts, though he was able to post his fourth quality start of the season. His ERA is now 4.48 on the year. The 31-year-old right-hander is set to face the Cardinals on the road next weekend.
