• Mason Miller silences Pirates in non-save spot
Mason Miller fired a perfect ninth inning on Wednesday in a non-save situation against the Pirates.

Advice: Miller got the call to protect a four-run lead in the final frame after needing 16 pitches to close out Tuesday’s victory less than 24 hours ago. He got Jack Suwinski to ground out and fanned Henry Davis before coaxing a game-ending ground out from Ke’Bryan Hayes. He averaged 100.8 mph on his fastball and needed just 10 pitches to spin a perfect frame. The hard-throwing 25-year-old righty has reeled off 12 consecutive scoreless appearances and has converted eight saves to go along with a microscopic 1.26 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 29/4 K/BB ratio across 14 1/3 innings of work this season. • Ross Stripling spins six shutout frames vs. Pirates
Ross Stripling fired six shutout innings on Wednesday in a win over the Pirates.

Advice: Stripling certainly wasn’t overpowering, mustering only a pair of strikeouts, but he managed to keep Pittsburgh’s lineup off balance with his five-pitch mix. He also consistently filled up the zone, throwing 58 of 79 pitches for strikes, and didn’t hand out a free pass in one of his better outings of the year. He’s allowed three earned runs or fewer in four consecutive starts since April 15, but the lack of strikeouts limits his streaming appeal almost exclusively to deeper mixed leagues. He’ll take a serviceable 4.24 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 27/8 K/BB ratio across 40 1/3 innings (seven starts) into a challenging home matchup on Tuesday against the Rangers. Rotoworld 8 minutes ago

  • Brewers option Abner Uribe to Triple-A
Brewers optioned RHP Abner Uribe to Triple-A Nashville.

Advice: Uribe opened the season as the Brewers’ closer, but wound up posting a troublesome 6.91 ERA and 1.88 WHIP over 14 1/3 innings. He was also a major player in Tuesday’s scuffle with Jose Siri and the Rays, resulting in a six-game suspension that he’s appealing. He’ll try to get back on track at Triple-A. • Jose Urquidy (forearm) throws live bullpen session
Jose Urquidy (forearm) threw a live bullpen session on Wednesday without any issues.

Advice: The right-handed threw around 30 pitches during the session which went very well according to Astros’ skipper Joe Espada. He’ll repeat the process again in a few days and then progress to a minor league rehab assignment. Rotoworld 31 minutes ago

  • Diamondbacks option Saalfrank to Triple-A
Diamondbacks optioned LHP Andrew Saalfrank to Triple-A Reno.

Advice: Saalfrank has struggled mightily in two appearances out of the Diamondbacks’ bullpen this season, posting a 36.00 ERA and 6.00 WHIP in his inning of work. Blake Walston was recalled in a corresponding move. Rotoworld 40 minutes ago
  • Tracking toward return next week
Reds manager David Bell said Tuesday that he expects Montas (forearm) to return from the 15-day injured list when first eligible May 7 or the day after, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Montas was placed on the IL on April 22 with a bruised right forearm, which he sustained when he was struck by a line drive in his start a day earlier. Bell noted that Montas threw a side session Monday without issue, and the right-hander will throw one more bullpen session later this week as a final test of his health. If all goes well, Montas should rejoin the rotation for the Reds' three-game series with the Diamondbacks that begins next Tuesday. Rotowire.com 48 minutes ago

  • Steven Wilson walks three versus Twins
Steven Wilson walked three and allowed two unearned runs while getting two outs in relief versus the Twins on Wednesday.

Advice: With Michael Kopech hardly being a sure thing, it’d be nice if there were a clear No. 2 reliever on the White Sox. However, Wilson’s velocity is down and he has an ugly 10/9 K/BB ratio in 13 1/3 innings. John Brebbia is having similar issues after missing more of the spring, and while rookie Jordan Leasure possesses a nice 3.00 ERA, his 8/6 K/BB ratio in 12 innings doesn’t inspire much confidence. Someone else might step up in time. Rotoworld 48 minutes ago
  • Optioned back down
Saalfrank was optioned to Triple-A Reno on Wednesday.

Advice: The southpaw slinger will head back to the Aces after being brought up in late April. Saalfrank appeared in two games during his quick tenure with the Diamondbacks, and he allowed four earned runs over one inning. Rotowire.com 51 minutes ago
  • Faces hitters Wednesday
Urquidy (forearm) threw live batting practice before Wednesday's game against Cleveland, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Urquidy was able to throw 30 pitches without any problems during Wednesday's session. The 29-year-old righty will likely throw one more round of BP before embarking on a rehab assignment in the minors, though it's unclear when that may be. Rotowire.com 54 minutes ago
