Luis Ortiz allows six runs in four innings
Luis Ortiz followed opener Cameron Mlodzinski and got hit hard by the Rays allowing six runs and 10 hits in four innings of work. He struck out three and walked one.
Advice: Ortiz pitched better than his line, which isn’t saying much. The Rays made a habit of squeaking singles through the infield and Jose Lowe burned him for two loud home runs. Even with this disaster, Ortiz’s ERA ticked up to just 3.45. His fastball and sinker each sit 97 MPH, his slider is nasty, and his cutter is coming along. Ortiz remains risky but could prove valuable in the second half.
