Advice: Mateo will remain on the bench in favor of Ramon Urias -- with Jordan Westburg at second base -- after Urias went 2-for-4 in Saturday's win. While it's a second straight absence for Mateo after four consecutive starts fresh off the 7-day concussion list, there has been no hint of an injury setback. Andrew Vaughn homers again in rout of D-BacksAndrew Vaughn went 2-for-5 with a homer and three RBI Saturday in a win over the Diamondbacks.
Advice: It’s been a fantastic June for Vaughn, even with the White Sox playing at an absolutely abhorrent level. The 26-year-old hit a two-run blast off Bryce Jarvis in the fifth, and the first baseman drove in another run with a single two innings earlier. Grabs four-out saveJansen pitched 1.1 perfect innings to earn the save in Saturday's 8-4 win over the Yankees.
Advice: Greg Weissert was shaky in the eighth inning, but Jansen was able to get the last out of the frame with runners on the corners. The Red Sox added some insurance in the bottom of the eighth, and Jansen slammed the door in the ninth. The right-hander is up to 11 saves this season, though he has picked up just two of them over four appearances in June. Rebounds with win, quality startMorton (4-3) earned the win over Tampa Bay on Saturday, allowing one run on three hits and two walks while striking out eight batters over six innings.
Advice: Morton had his swing-and-miss stuff working, racking up 22 whiffs among his 105 pitches. The veteran hurler fell behind by a run in the first inning but yielded only two hits while holding the Rays scoreless thereafter. This was a nice bounce-back for Morton after he surrendered five runs (four earned) over five innings against Washington in his previous start. Kenley Jansen locks down four-out save on SaturdayKenley Jansen picked up his 11th save of the season on Saturday night, recording the final four outs against the Yankees.
Advice: Jansen came on to put out a fire in the eighth inning with two men on and two outs with the Red Sox clinging to a two-run advantage. He got Anthony Volpe to fly out to right field to end the threat — then returned to work a perfect ninth inning to close it out. Charlie Morton has vintage performance in winCharlie Morton allowed one run on three hits in six innings in a win over the Rays on Saturday.
Advice: Morton looked like his old self, striking out eight and walking two. He induced 22 whiffs on 49 swings for a ridiculous 45 percent whiff rate and 35 percent CSW. Salvador Perez (knee) could return on SundaySalvador Perez (knee) is not in the Royals’ starting lineup for Saturday night’s battle against the Dodgers.
Advice: The star 34-year-old backstop was removed from Friday’s game due to discomfort in his right knee. He underwent an MRI exam on Saturday — the results of which were very favorable — and Perez is expected to return to the Royals’ lineup in a day or two.
