• Will Brennan homers, doubles in Guardians’ win
Will Brennan homered and doubled Friday in the Guardians’ 3-1 victory over the Blue Jays.

Advice: Brennan homered for the first time since May 19 and doubled for the first time since May 7. The Guardians can and should try to do a little better in the outfield prior to the deadline. Brennan could still have a role afterwards, but he’s not someone who should be starting regularly versus righties. Rotoworld 36 minutes ago

  • MRI reveals significant strain
Manager Dave Martinez said Friday that Gallo's MRI revealed a "significant hamstring strain," Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.

Advice: Martinez didn't give a return timeline for Gallo, simply saying that the 30-year-old will be out for "a while." Joey Meneses has been acting as Washington's primary first baseman since Gallo landed on the injured list Wednesday, but it's possible the Nationals decide to add someone from their farm system or outside the organization to help split the workload. • Jake Cave (head) scratched from Rockies’ lineup
Jake Cave was scratched from the Rockies’ starting lineup on Friday after sustaining a “minor cut to his forehead” when he was hit in the side of the head by a line drive during batting practice.

Advice: It sounds like he was fortunate to have avoided a more serious injury, but Rockies’ skipper Bud Black said he would provide another update on his status after Friday’s game. Elehuris Montero will take his place in the Rockies lineup, with Charlie Blackmon shifting from designated hitter to right field. Rotoworld Today, 4:29 pm

  • DFA'd by Pirates
The Pirates designated Goodrum for assignment Friday, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.

Advice: Pittsburgh claimed Goodrum Monday, but he'll return to waivers Friday after going 2-for-15 with seven strikeouts in four appearances with Triple-A Indianapolis. The Pirates are Goodrum's third stop of the season, starting the year with Tampa Bay before spending time in the Angels system. In 33 MLB plate appearances this season, Goodrum owns a .291 OPS. • Pirates designate Niko Goodrum for assignment
Pirates designated INF Niko Goodrum for assignment.

Advice: Less than a week after being claimed off of waivers from the Angels, Goodrum finds himself off the 40-man roster once more so that the Pirates had a roster spot available for Josh Fleming on Friday. The versatile 32-year-old makes for a nice utility option and will probably attract interest on waivers once again this time around. Rotoworld Today, 4:12 pm

  • Sitting again
Calhoun is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Giants.

Advice: Calhoun will take a seat for a second straight game Friday with Kevin Pillar playing left field and batting cleanup while Taylor Ward bats third and DH's. Calhoun is 10-for-30 (.333) in June with five walks and two strikeouts. Rotowire.com Today, 3:45 pm
  • Jake Cave suffers injury during batting practice
Jake Cave had to be carted off the field on Friday after taking a line drive off his head during batting practice.

Advice: Cave was down on the ground for roughly 10 minutes before he was carted off the field in a scary situation pregame on Friday. He’ll head for further evaluation. Look for the Rockies to provide an update on his status as soon as one becomes available. Rotoworld Today, 3:38 pm

  • Getting breather Friday
Velazquez is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Dodgers.

Advice: After starting in each of the Royals last four games, Velazquez will get the day off Friday. Adam Frazier will DH and bat fifth while Drew Waters fills in at right field and bats eighth. Rotowire.com Today, 3:36 pm
  • Carted off field pregame
Cave was carted off the field during the Rockies' pre-game batting practice after being hit in the side of the head by a line drive, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.

Advice: Cave was stationed in right field as the Rockies' took BP and was struck in the head by a line drive. Trainers were seen applying pressure to Cave's head before he was carted off the field. Cave was slated to bat eighth and play right field Friday but was scratched after the incident, but the severity of the injury is unknown. Rotowire.com Today, 3:30 pm
