• Emmet Sheehan undergoes Tommy John surgery
Emmet Sheehan underwent season-ending Tommy John surgery earlier this week.

Advice: The writing was seemingly on the wall after Sheehan was shut down from throwing indefinitely a couple weeks ago due to right forearm inflammation. The 24-year-old right-hander showed some immense promise last year as a rookie before landing on the shelf back in spring training with an ominous arm injury. There should be some clarity on his return timetable at some point in the near future, but it’s obviously a significant development for his fantasy appeal in dynasty leagues. • Dodgers recall lefty Nick Ramirez on Thursday
Dodgers recalled LHP Nick Ramirez from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Advice: Ramirez provides Los Angeles with a fresh reliever heading into Thursday’s series opener against the Reds at Dodger Stadium. The 34-year-old southpaw has recorded a pristine 1.29 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 2/3 K/BB ratio across seven innings (five appearances) this season in his Dodgers debut. Rotoworld Today, 3:29 pm

  • Undergoes Tommy John surgery
The Dodgers announced that Sheehan (elbow) underwent season-ending Tommy John surgery Wednesday.

Advice: Sheehan has been on the shelf all season with what the Dodgers had initially classified as right forearm inflammation. He had been cleared to face hitters in late March, only for the Dodgers to shut him down in mid-April after he experienced a setback in his recovery. A month after being shut down, the 24-year-old still wasn't responding to rest and rehab as well as the Dodgers had hoped, and after meeting with Dr. Neal ElAttrache, Sheehan was recommended for Tommy John surgery. He'll miss the rest of the 2024 season and a significant chunk of the 2025 season while he recovers from the procedure. Rotowire.com Today, 3:28 pm

  • Dodgers option Eduardo Salazar to Triple-A
Dodgers optioned RHP Eduardo Salazar to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Advice: Salazar heads back to the minors after allowing one run (zero earned) with three strikeouts over two innings on Wednesday in his Dodgers debut. The 26-year-old righty figures to oscillate between Los Angeles’ bullpen and Triple-A Oklahoma City as extra organizational relief depth for the next few months. Rotoworld Today, 3:27 pm
  • Guardians activate Sam Hentges for Friday return
Guardians activated LHP Sam Hentges from the paternity list.

Advice: Hentges will be back in Cleveland’s bullpen for Friday’s series opener against the Twins. The 27-year-old lefty has made three scoreless appearances since returning from the injured list following a five-weeks absence due to left middle finger inflammation. Rotoworld Today, 3:19 pm
  • Ken Waldichuk undergoes Tommy John surgery
Ken Waldichuk underwent Tommy John surgery on Wednesday.

Advice: Waldichuk underwent a full Tommy John elbow reconstruction and will be sidelined at least until the later stages of the 2025 campaign. The 26-year-old lefty suffered the injury originally last September and was ultimately unable to avoid surgery. Rotoworld Today, 2:14 pm

  • Beginning rehab assignment
Burke (hand) will begin a rehab assignment in the Arizona Complex League on Thursday.

Advice: Burke landed on the injured list April 13 after breaking his right (non-throwing) hand, and he'll now begin working his way back in rookie ball. The 27-year-old southpaw isn't eligible to return from the IL until June 12, so he will have plenty of time to ease his way back before rejoining the Rangers' bullpen. Brock Burke (hand) will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Thursday with the Rangers’ Arizona Complex League.

Advice: Burke is going to be require several weeks of rehab appearances as he works his way back after fracturing his non-throwing hand last month. Rotoworld Today, 2:09 pm

  • Set for live BP on Friday
Wicks (forearm) will throw a live batting practice session Friday, Bruce Levine of 670TheScore.com reports.

Advice: Wicks has been on the shelf since late April with a left forearm strain but could be cleared to begin a rehab assignment if things go well Friday. Because he hasn't missed that much time, he probably won't need more than one or two rehab starts. However, given his 4.70 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 28:9 K:BB across 23 innings before going on the IL, he wouldn't seem to be a given to be re-inserted into the Cubs' rotation once he's ready.
