• Elbow surgery a possibility for Garrett Whitlock
Garrett Whitlock has UCL damage in his elbow and will receive a second opinion later this week.

Advice: Unfortunate, but it did seem like was coming. Assuming that Whitlock has surgery, he’ll almost certainly miss the rest of the season, and his return next year might come as a reliever. Rotoworld Today, 6:17 pm

  • Ben Lively strikes out seven to defeat Mets
Ben Lively allowed one run over 5 2/3 innings on Monday in a win over the Mets.

Advice: Lively’s unexpected hot start continued in this one as he allowed three earned runs or fewer for the seventh consecutive start since making his season debut back on April 17. He matched a season-high with seven strikeouts and didn’t hand out a free pass. A third-inning solo shot by light-hitting backstop Tomás Nido represented the lone tally against him in this one. He’ll bring a strong 2.84 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 38/12 K/BB ratio across 38 innings (seven starts) into a favorable road matchup on Sunday against the Angels. Rotoworld Today, 6:02 pm

  • Vasquez posts quality start Monday
Randy Vasquez allowed three runs in six innings and took the loss against the Braves on Monday.

Advice: Vasquez, who was acquired from the Yankees in the Juan Soto trade, really battled in this start. Despite allowing 10 hits and having an elevated pitch count in the early innings, he still managed to put up a quality start in a tough matchup against Atlanta on the road. This was also the longest start of Vasquez’ career. He lowered his ERA to 5.82 in five starts this year, though his xFIP is much lower at 4.45. It’s something for Vasquez to potentially build on even though he’s not usable in fantasy at the moment. The 25-year-old right-hander is scheduled to face the Yankees at home on Saturday.

  • Designated for assignment
Salazar was designated for assignment by the Dodgers on Monday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Salazar was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday and he'll now be placed on waivers after being dropped from the Dodgers' 40-man roster. If he goes unclaimed, he'll likely remain with Oklahoma City. The Dodgers acquired reliever Yohan Ramirez via trade from the Mets on Monday and he'll replace Salazar on the 40-man roster and join Los Angeles ahead of their three-game series with the Diamondbacks. • Dodgers designate Eduardo Salazar for assignment
Dodgers designated RHP Eduardo Salazar for assignment.

Advice: Salazar had two quick stints with the Dodgers this season and allowed one unearned run in two innings. By clearing him from the 40-man, the Dodgers are picking Yohan Ramírez over giving Salazar an extended look. Rotoworld Today, 4:50 pm
  • Launching throwing program
Kelly (shoulder) is set to begin his throwing program Monday, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports.

Advice: Kelly has been on the 15-day injured list since May 6 with a right shoulder strain and he will now take the first step towards making his return. The right-hander will likely need to build up his workload and even potentially make a trip to the minors for a rehab assignment. Depending on how his shoulder responds to the beginning of his throwing program, Kelly will receive a timetable for his return, which currently appears to be at least a week away at the earliest. • Available to pitch Monday
Astros manager Joe Espada said that Pressly (finger) will be available out of the bullpen Monday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Pressly has been off limits for a few days while dealing with soreness in a finger on his right hand, but it would seem he's fully recovered now. The veteran reliever has struggled this season, collecting a 5.51 ERA and 1.78 WHIP through 16.1 innings. Rotowire.com Today, 3:19 pm

  • Brewers designate Thyago Vieira for assignment
Brewers designated RHP Thyago Vieira for assignment.

Advice: Vieira loses his spot after posting a 5.64 ERA in 22 1/3 innings out of the pen. He still has the live arm capable of delivering 95-99 mph fastballs, but all it’s gotten him is a 6.18 ERA since he debuted with the Mariners in 2017. Even so, there’s a decent chance that someone will claim him, since he’s making the minimum and can eat innings out of the pen. Rotoworld Today, 3:03 pm

  • Might be back this weekend
Middleton (forearm) will be evaluated for potential activation from the injured list following back-to-back rehab appearances with Double-A Springfield on Wednesday and Thursday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Advice: Middleton hasn't allowed a hit or a run in two scoreless rehab innings so far, although he's also walked three and has not recorded a strikeout. He's been out all season with a right forearm strain. Rotowire.com Today, 2:43 pm
