    • Matt Waldron knuckles his way to third win
      Matt Waldron struck out eight over seven innings Tuesday in the Padres’ 4-0 shutout of the Marlins.

      Advice: He moved to 3-5 with a 4.26 ERA. Waldron threw his knuckleball 27% of the time last season and was at 36% percent this season coming into the night. Against the Marlins, though, he used it a career-high 55% of the time and induced 11 of his 15 missed swings on the night. We’re still not overly impressed by the pitch, but the league is awfully unfamiliar at dealing with knuckleballs these days.     • Gavin Stone twirls seven-inning gem to beat Mets
      Gavin Stone recorded seven strikeouts over seven shutout innings on Tuesday in a win over the Mets.

      Advice: Stone drew the starting assignment for the nightcap of Tuesday’s twin bill at Citi Field and authored one of his best outings of the year. He scattered three hits, didn’t hand out a free pass, and established a new season-high mark with seven strikeouts. The 25-year-old righty has allowed three earned runs or fewer in eight of his 10 starts this season and will bring a respectable 3.16 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 41/17 K/BB ratio across 57 innings (10 starts) into a road matchup next Wednesday against the Pirates.     • Hyde: Dean Kremer (triceps) to resume throwing
      Orioles manager Brandon Hyde told reporters Tuesday that Dean Kremer (triceps) will resume throwing later this week.

      Advice: Kremer hit the injured list last week with a right triceps strain, so it’s an encouraging development that he’s ready to resume throwing already. The 28-year-old righty should rejoin Baltimore’s starting rotation mix at some point in mid-June. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:40 pm

    • Close to playing catch
      Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said Tuesday that Kremer (triceps) is improving and could be cleared to play catch soon, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

      Advice: Kremer was placed on the 15-day injured list this past Friday, but it's looking like his absence might not last long.     • Set for another rehab outing
      Miller (shoulder) will make his next minor-league rehab start Friday or Saturday and is scheduled to throw about four innings, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.

      Advice: Miller allowed three runs and threw 55 pitches over three frames in his first rehab outing Sunday with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga, and it's no surprise he'll require at least one more appearance in the minors before rejoining the Dodgers. The 24-year-old could be back in the big-league rotation as early as next week, but it's also possible he'll require a third rehab outing. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 12:39 pm

      Valdez (3-3) took the loss against Seattle on Monday, allowing three runs on six hits and three walks while striking out four batters over six innings.

      Advice: Valdez looked to be in for a rough night after giving up three runs on four hits in the first inning, but he settled in from there and yielded just two hits and no runs the rest of the way. That allowed him to squeak by with a quality start, though he nonetheless ended with his second straight loss. Valdez gave up eight runs over five frames against the Angels in his previous appearance, so this was a decent bounce-back despite the difficult first inning.     • Framber Valdez turns in quality start in loss
      Framber Valdez surrendered three runs in six innings Monday in a no-decision versus the Mariners.

      Advice: All of the runs scored in the first, an inning that could have been much worse if Jake Meyers didn’t cover half of the outfield to chase down a Cal Raleigh fly with the bases loaded. Valdez still gave up four hits that inning, but he allowed just two more the rest of the way. Nevertheless, he still took the loss in a 3-2 game, leaving him 3-3 with a 4.34 ERA for the season.     • Bailey has two-hit game against the Phillies Monday
      Patrick Bailey went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI against the Phillies on Monday.



      Advice: Bailey continues his hot hitting. He’s now 10-for-25 (.400) with six runs and nine RBI over his last eight games. The catcher is up to .308 with a .846 OPS on the season. Bailey is well worth using in two-catcher formats at this point.

    • Jarren Duran goes 0-for-5 in loss to Orioles
      Jarren Duran went 0-for-5 with three strikeouts on Monday in the Red Sox’ loss to the Orioles.

      Advice: Duran has been mired in a little bit of a funk lately, batting .233 (7-for-30) with one homer and one steal over his last seven contests. It’s an extremely small sample size, but if we frame out a bit more, he’s hitting .262 (32-for-122) with just two homers and three steals over his last 30 contests. The 27-year-old has shown glimpses of immense fantasy potential as a power/speed combo threat, but it hasn’t quite come together completely this season as he sits at only three homers and 11 steals through Memorial Day.
