    • Rings up ninth save
Miller recorded his ninth save in Tuesday's win over the Rockies, striking out the side in a perfect ninth inning.

Advice: Miller mowed through the trio of Jordan Beck, Charlie Blackmon and Ezequiel Tovar on 16 pitches, retiring each on swinging strikes to close out the one-run win. It was Miller's first save opportunity since April 30, as well as his 15th straight scoreless appearance. The flamethrowing right-hander hasn't allowed so much as a single since April 25 as well, and his trio of strikeouts Tuesday pushed his K/9 and swinging strikeout rate figures to an astounding 18.1 and 23.7 percent, respectively, across 20.1 innings. • Hoping to take BP soon
The Mets are aiming for Alvarez (thumb) to begin taking batting practice during their May 24-to-June 2 homestand, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

Advice: It's been a month since Alvarez had surgery to address a torn UCL in his left thumb and he's almost ready to pick up a bat as he advances his rehab. The catcher remains on track to return to the Mets' active roster in mid- to late-June. Rotowire.com Today, 8:32 am
    • Francisco Alvarez (thumb) could hit next week
Francisco Alvarez could begin taking batting practice next week as he continues his recovery from a torn UCL in his left thumb.

Advice: Alvarez is about a month away from returning, assuming that everything goes as hoped. He had surgery on the thumb on April 23. Rotoworld Today, 8:30 am
    • Blows first save
Doval gave up two unearned runs on two hits and a walk in two-thirds of an inning Tuesday to blow his first save of the season in a 7-6 extra-inning loss to the Pirates. He struck out one.

Advice: The Giants rolled into the ninth inning with a 6-2 lead, but after Luke Jackson put two runners aboard with one out, Doval got the call and coaxed a potential double-play grounder from Andrew McCutchen, only for Marco Luciano to boot it and pave the way for a Pirates rally. Doval's control has taken a step backward this season, as he has a 15.7 percent walk rate compared to a 9.3 percent mark in 2023, but he still carries a 2.89 ERA to go with his 1.45 WHIP, 25:13 K:BB through 18.2 innings and eight saves. • Goes yard twice in rout
Buxton went 2-for-5 with two home runs and three RBI in Tuesday's 10-0 win over the Nationals.

Advice: The 30-year-old slugger took Patrick Corbin deep in the second and fifth innings, his first long balls in four games since coming off the IL and his first multi-homer performance of 2024. Buxton had managed only one home run in 28 games prior to knee trouble that shut him down in early May, but Tuesday's fireworks are a strong sign he's fully healthy. Rotowire.com Today, 7:19 am
    • Will undergo MRI
Gray (groin) will undergo an MRI after being removed from Tuesday's start, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Gray was feeling tightness in his right groin and was removed after 75 pitches and five innings. The right-hander doesn't believe the injury is serious and intends to make his next start. Rotowire.com Today, 4:42 am

    • Mason Miller strikes out side for ninth save
Mason Miller struck out all three batters he faced Tuesday against the Rockies for his first save of the month.

Advice: Miller earned eight saves from Apr. 9-30, but the A’s hadn’t had any save situations for him since. Given that he also pitched Sunday, it’s possible he’ll now require Wednesday off. The A’s have allowed him to pitch on consecutive days twice, but they haven’t had him work three times in four days. That it’s a day game Wednesday doesn’t help. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:42 pm

    • Records 15th steal
Acuna went 0-for-4 with a walk and a stolen base in Tuesday's 4-3 extra-inning loss to the Cubs.

Advice: The steal was Acuna's first since May 4, an unusually long drought without a theft for the speedy outfielder. He was caught on his only attempt over 12 games between steals. Acuna has struggled to get into a rhythm at the plate this season, slashing .247/.355/.351 with three home runs, 12 RBI, 36 runs scored and 15 steals over 203 plate appearances. Some regression from last year's 41-homer, 73-steal campaign was to be expected in 2024, but Acuna's career-low .706 OPS so far has been a brutal over-correction of his fortune. • Solid showing in loss
Schmidt (5-2) took the loss Tuesday against Seattle, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks across five innings. He struck out six.

Advice: Although Schmidt's scoreless inning streak ended at 17.0 innings, he didn't allow more than three runs -- something he's yet to do this season. Dylan Moore inflicted all the damage on Schmidt, launching a two-run homer in the third inning. On the year, Schmidt boasts a 2.59 ERA with a 61:17 K:BB over 55.2 innings and owns his best strikeout rate since becoming a full-time big-leaguer in 2022. The 28-year-old is scheduled to face the Padres in San Diego on Sunday. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:46 pm
