    • Giancarlo Stanton getting night off on Friday
Giancarlo Stanton is absent from the Yankees’ starting lineup for Friday night’s showdown against the Brewers.

Advice: The 34-year-old slugger will get a night off after starting five straight games for the Bombers. Aaron Judge will serve as the team’s designated hitter on Friday night while Trent Grisham draws a rare start in center field and will bat ninth against Colin Rea and the Brewers. • Andrés Giménez not in Guardians lineup on Friday
Andrés Giménez is not in the Guardians’ starting lineup for Friday night’s soiree against the Braves.

Advice: The switch-hitting 25-year-old infielder went hitless (0-for-10) during their series against the Red Sox to start the week, so perhaps Guardians’ skipper Stephen Vogt just wants to give him a day to clear his head. Gabriel Arias will start in his place at second base and will bat seventh against Chris Sale and the Braves on Friday evening in Atlanta. Rotoworld Today, 1:55 pm
    • Sitting versus lefty
Gimenez is not in the lineup for Friday's game in Atlanta.

Advice: Atlanta is starting southpaw Chris Sale, so it's not a bad day for the left-handed hitting Gimenez to get a breather. Gabriel Arias will handle second base Friday. Rotowire.com Today, 12:52 pm
    • Goes 4.1 scoreless
Verlander didn't factor into the decision Thursday, allowing three hits and four walks with seven strikeouts over 4.1 scoreless innings against the Cubs.

Advice: Verlander couldn't complete five innings Thursday, getting pulled after 95 pitches. His inefficiency and lack of control led to four walks, but he kept each baserunner from reaching home plate. Through two starts Verlander owns a 1.74 ERA with 11 strikeouts across 10.1 innings. A matchup with the Guardians likely awaits next week. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:56 pm
    • Justin Verlander fires 4 1/3 scoreless vs. Cubs
Justin Verlander didn’t give up a run over 4 1/3 innings with seven strikeouts in a no-decision against the Cubs on Thursday.

Advice: Verlander allowed just three hits, but the seven punchouts along with four walks worked the pitch count up enough for him to not qualify for a decision. The right-hander gave up just one extra-base hit — a double by Nico Hoerner — and while he did have some control issues, the stuff looked solid in his second start of 2024. Verlander is back on the bump next week against the Guardians. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:09 pm
    • José Ramírez drives in four in win over Red Sox
José Ramírez went 3-for-4 with a home run, four RBI, and a steal in a win over the Red Sox on Thursday.

Advice: Ramirez crushed a second-inning pitch from Chase Anderson 384 feet at 107.8 mph off the bat for his fifth home run of the season. He’s now slashing .260/.271/.471 on the season with 23 RBI and three steals. Ramirez has been hyper-aggressive this season, raising his chase rate and his overall swing rate by 10 percent. As a result, he has just a two percent walk rate and is making less hard contact than he did last year. He still makes an elite amount of contact, but you do have to wonder if the increased aggression will make it harder for him to reach that .280-.300 batting average that we’re used to seeing. • Powers Cleveland to win
Ramirez went 3-for-4 with a grand slam, a stolen base and an additional run scored in Thursday's 6-4 win over the Red Sox.

Advice: Ramirez extended the Guardians' lead to 5-0 in the second inning, blasting a two-out grand slam on the 10th pitch of the at-bat from Chase Anderson. While it had been a slow start to the year by Ramirez's standards, he now has six extra-base hits, including three home runs, and three stolen bases in his last 10 contests. The veteran third baseman is now slashing .260/.271/.471 with five home runs, 23 RBI and 18 runs scored across 107 plate appearances this season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:28 pm

    • Next start will be Monday
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Thursday that Paxton's next start will be at Arizona on Monday, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

Advice: Paxton would be on regular rest Sunday after he started Tuesday's game against the Nationals, but the Dodgers will go with a bullpen game Sunday in Toronto and give Paxton an extra day of rest. The southpaw has managed a 2.61 ERA but a 1.55 WHIP and 11:17 K:BB through 20.2 innings this season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:25 pm

    • Getting day off Thursday
Buxton is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the White Sox.

Advice: Buxton looks to be getting a routine day off, affording Austin Martin a turn in center field Thursday. Buxton has shown signs of life at the plate over his last eight games, slashing .323/.344/.613 with one homer run, four doubles and one triple during that stretch. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:03 am
