    • Locks down third save
Duran earned the save in a win over the Mariners on Wednesday, pitching a perfect ninth inning while striking out one.

Advice: Duran entered the game with a 6-3 lead in the top of the ninth and needed nine pitches to record the first out. The right-handed reliever then managed to work his way back from a 3-0 count to retire Jorge Polanco on strikes for the final out of the game. It marked Duran's third save of the season, and he's now pitched a perfect inning in back-to-back appearances. He's also yet to walk a batter or allow a run across five innings. • Jhoan Duran shuts door on Mariners for third save
Jhoan Duran struck out one batter in a scoreless ninth inning for the save against the Mariners on Wednesday.

Advice: After a pair of eighth-inning appearances, Duran got back to closing duties against the Mariners on Wednesday. Up by three runs, he entered in the ninth to close it out and tossed a clean frame, striking out the final batter to end the game with his third save. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:37 pm

    • Grounds Cardinals in quality start
Manaea (2-1) earned the win over St. Louis on Monday, allowing three runs on six hits and one walk while striking out one batter over six innings.

Advice: Manaea didn't have his swing-and-miss stuff Monday -- he induced just four whiffs and recorded only one strikeout -- but that didn't stop him from keeping the Cardinals' bats mostly under control. The southpaw cruised through five scoreless frames before running out of gas in a three-run St. Louis sixth, but he was able to finish the inning to notch his first quality start since his first appearance of the campaign. Control issues have kept Manaea from going deep into contests this season, so it was promising to see him issue just one free pass -- his fewest of the campaign -- against the Cardinals. • Sean Manaea gives up three runs in no-decision
Sean Manaea yielded three runs over six innings on Monday in a no-decision against the Cardinals.

Advice: Manaea was cruising along in this one until his final frame when the Cardinals struck for three runs on a trio of hits and a walk. It was backstops Willson Contreras and Iván Herrera that delivered run-scoring hits in the frame and wound up forcing the veteran lefty to settle for a no-decision. He finished with just one strikeout and only handed out one free pass. He’ll bring a respectable 3.31 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 31/19 K/BB ratio across 36 1/3 innings (seven starts) into a tough matchup on Sunday against the division-rival Braves. • Works eighth inning
Duran struck out two batters in a scoreless eighth inning and earned a hold during Monday's win over Seattle.

Advice: Duran was called upon to face the Mariners' 9-1-2 hitters in a 3-1 contest. After earning a save in each of his first two appearances of 2024, he's picked up a hold in his last two games. Duran is the primary closing option in Minnesota but it appears there may be more of a committee than expected. Last season, he converted 27 of 32 saves and picked up only one hold. • Report: Tanner Scott could be next Marlin traded
According to Buster Olney, sources told him that Tanner Scott is “the guy on their roster you’d look at” but Josh Bell could also interest teams as well.

Advice: After the Marlins traded Luis Arraez this weekend, assuming a firesale would follow was only logical. Scott was electric as the closer for the Marlins last year, but has seen some control issues resurface this season. He has a 2.77 ERA and four saves, but he also has 14 walks in 13 innings. If he were to be traded, he would likely serve as a setup man, and the Marlins could turn back to A.J. Puk in the closer’s role which means Puk could be worth a speculative add in leagues. Buster Olney’s article also mentioned that Josh Bell and Jake Burger could interest some teams in need of offensive punch. Rotoworld Monday, 7:18 am
    • Picks up first hold Saturday
Duran gave up a hit and struck out two in a scoreless eighth inning Saturday to record his first hold of the season in a 3-1 win over the Red Sox.

Advice: The right-hander got the call to face the heart of Boston's order in the eighth rather than being held back for the save chance, and he got the job done without issue. Cole Sands then worked the ninth inning for the save. Duran had only one hold last season along with his 27 saves, and Twins manager Rocco Baldelli typically favors set roles in his bullpen over playing matchups in high-leverage spots, so there's no reason yet to assume this is a sign Duran will see less ninth-inning work than expected. He's appeared in three games since making his season debut Tuesday, posting a 5:0 K:BB over three scoreless frames and collecting saves in the other two contests. • Jhoan Duran fans two in earning second save
Jhoan Duran pitched a perfect ninth with two strikeouts for his second save Friday against the Red Sox.

Advice: Duran threw 11 pitches tonight and got five missed swings. His CSW was an absurd 64%, and he’s still just settling in after missing a month with a strained oblique. Rotoworld Friday, 8:56 pm

    • Slams door for save
Duran struck out two batters in a perfect inning to earn a save over the Red Sox on Friday.

Advice: Duran needed just 11 pitches to quickly retire the middle third of Boston's lineup. He's struck out three batters while grabbing a pair of saves in two appearances since returning from the injured list. The 26-year-old posted terrific numbers last season -- 2.45 ERA and 12.1 K/9 through 62.1 innings -- and should see plenty of save chances in 2024. Rotowire.com Friday, 8:17 pm
