    • Bryan Woo set to return on Friday against A’s
Bryan Woo (elbow) will start on Friday against the Athletics.

Advice: Woo will make his return to Seattle’s starting rotation after missing the opening six weeks of the regular season recovering from right elbow inflammation. The 24-year-old righty was sharp in his latest rehab start for Triple-A Tacoma with six strikeouts over five scoreless frames and shouldn’t have any workload restrictions in his season debut. It’s an extremely tasty matchup, which makes Woo a viable option for fantasy managers in all formats right out of the gate. Rotoworld Today, 1:33 pm

    • Starting Friday
Woo (elbow) is expected to be activated from the 15-day injured list to start Friday's game against the Athletics, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports.

Advice: Woo has been on the injured list all year due to right elbow inflammation, but he has now been given the green light to make his season debut with the Mariners. The 24-year-old righty did not give up a run through 11.1 innings during his three rehab starts at Triple-A Tacoma, and he managed to strikeout 17 batters while walking none. Emerson Hancock is expected to be optioned to Tacoma once Woo is activated. Rotowire.com Today, 1:09 pm

    • Encouraging MRI results
Rodriguez is close to being able to begin a throwing program after an MRI on Wednesday showed healing in his left shoulder, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.

Advice: Rodriguez has been sidelined all season and had to be shut down from throwing in mid-April after he felt renewed tightness in his shoulder. However, it appears the recent period of rest did him some good, and he's almost ready to ramp things back up again. The left-hander is still likely at least a month or so away from being able to join the Diamondbacks' rotation. Rotowire.com Today, 8:21 am
    • Eduardo Rodriguez ‘close’ to throwing program
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Eduardo Rodgriguez (lat) is close to beginning a throwing program.

Advice: Good news for the 31-year-old hurler. Lovullo also added that an MRI on Rodriguez’s lat is healing, but he’s still likely a month or so away from making his season debut. Rotoworld Today, 8:18 am
    • Solid in second win
Montgomery (2-2) picked up the win Wednesday, allowing two runs on seven hits and two walks over seven innings in a 4-3 victory over the Reds. He struck out two.

Advice: While he again wasn't dominant, Montgomery worked seven frames for the second time in four starts since joining the Arizona rotation and delivered his third quality start. The veteran southpaw will take a 4.70 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 10:6 K:BB through 23 innings into his next outing, which lines up for a home rematch with Cincinnati early next week. • Montgomery goes seven strong in victory over Reds
Jordan Montgomery delivered a strong performance in Wednesday night’s victory over the Reds, allowing just two runs on seven hits over his seven frames.

Advice: The 31-year-old southpaw walked two and struck out two batters on the evening. The Reds pushed a run across in the second inning on a run-scoring single by Stuart Fairchild, then added another on an RBI double by Jeimer Candelario in the fourth. That was the extent of the damage. Montgomery got 10 swings and misses on 95 pitches on the night, registering a CSW of 29 percent. Now 2-2 on the season, he’ll look to further improve upon his 4.70 ERA and 1.30 WHIP when he takes on these same Reds at home on Monday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:38 pm
    • Beginning assignment Sunday
Snell (thigh) will throw a bullpen session Thursday and begin a rehab assignment at Single-A San Jose on Sunday, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Advice: Snell began facing hitters Tuesday, and he has now been given the green light to test his injured thigh in a competitive setting. The left-hander may have his assignment moved to a higher-level affiliate after his rehab outing Sunday, though it is possible the Giants opt to return him to their rotation after just one start. • Blake Snell tabbed for rehab start on Sunday
Blake Snell (adductor) is scheduled to make a minor league rehab start at Single-A San Jose on Sunday.

Advice: The 31-year-old southpaw will first throw a bullpen session on Thursday, then if all goes well he’ll be cleared to take the mound in that rehab start. Snell has been shelved since April 24 due to a left adductor strain. It remains to be seen if he’ll require any additional rehab starts after Sunday’s tune-up, or if he’ll be ready to return to the Giants’ rotation if things go well there. • Blasted by Yankees
Verlander (1-1) took the loss Tuesday, coughing up seven runs on eight hits -- including three home runs -- and three walks over five innings as the Astros were routed 10-3 by the Yankees. He struck out two.

Advice: The 41-year-old right-hander looked his age, managing only six swinging strikes among his 97 pitches as he got tagged for his most earned runs in a start since July 2, 2017 against Cleveland. Verlander has served up five homers in four starts and 22.1 innings, which isn't unusual for him, but he's beginning to have trouble keeping traffic off the basepaths ahead of the long balls -- he's walked at least three batters in three straight starts. He'll take a 4.43 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 15:10 K:BB into his next outing, which lines up to come at home early next week against the A's. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:04 am
