    • Hitting off tee
Murphy (oblique) began hitting off the tee during Atlanta's most recent series against Seattle earlier this week, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Advice: It's the first time Murphy has swung the bat since landing on the 10-day IL on March 30 with a Grade 1 left oblique strain. Prior to the series in Seattle, Murphy was limited to light throwing and catching work in the bullpen. The 29-year-old has taken a positive step in his program, but he still has a ways to go before starting a rehab assignment. Rotowire.com Today, 3:53 pm

    • Sean Murphy (oblique) takes swings off a tee
Sean Murphy (oblique) took swings off of a tee while the Braves were in Seattle.

Advice: It’s a small step, but it’s at least a step in the right direction for the hard-hitting backstop. Everything went well with that swinging session and the club will continue to ramp him up from there. There’s still no clear timetable for when he may be able to return. Rotoworld Today, 3:37 pm

    • Adbert Alzolay gives up three runs to take loss
After coming in with a 1-0 lead in the eighth, Adbert Alzolay gave up three runs on four hits to take a loss to the Brewers on Friday.

Advice: All four hits were singles, and three of them were soft, coming in at 80 mph or less. Two were grounders perfectly placed in between Dansby Swanson and Nico Hoerner up the middle. To be fair, Alzolay was missing his spots, and he hurt his cause by paying no attention to the baserunners and giving up three steals. Obviously, this won’t help his chances of seeing saves again anytime soon. Still, this isn’t how he usually struggles when he’s ineffective; he hadn’t allowed more than two hits in an appearance since last Sept. 1. Rotoworld Today, 2:02 pm
    • Moves up to leadoff spot
Young will start in center field and bat leadoff in Friday's game versus the Blue Jays.

Advice: Young batted leadoff a few times last month, but this is the first time since April 19 that a player other than CJ Abrams has been at the top of the batting order (Abrams is hitting second Friday). The Nationals are facing southpaw Yusei Kikuchi, and the right-handed hitting Young is batting .313/.353/.375 versus lefties this season. Rotowire.com Today, 1:19 pm

    • Sitting versus lefty
Mullins is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Yankees.

Advice: The Yankees are going with southpaw Carlos Rodon as their starting pitcher, so the Orioles have elected to give the left-handed-hitting Mullins a day off. Ryan McKenna will in for Mullins as Baltimore's starter in center field. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:10 am

    • Slated for next start Tuesday
Manager Torey Lovullo said after Wednesday's 8-0 loss to the Dodgers that Gallen (hamstring) will make his next start Tuesday against the Reds, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports.

Advice: Gallen was removed from his most recent start last Friday with a hamstring injury. The Diamondbacks had tentatively planned for Gallen to start the series finale with the Dodgers, but he ultimately needed more time to heal up from the injury. Arizona will skip his turn in the rotation entirely this week, but he'll tentatively line up for two starts the following week. After his matchup with the Reds, Gallen would then be slated for a start May 12 in Baltimore. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:54 am

    • Start pushed back
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Wednesday that Gallen (hamstring) won't start Friday as scheduled in an effort to provide him extra rest, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.

Advice: The right-hander was originally set to start Wednesday, but Tuesday's starter Jordan Montgomery was pushed back a day since the start time was delayed two hours. Gallen apparently isn't having any issues with the hamstring injury that surfaced in his previous start, but Lovullo has still decided to give his ace some extra rest. The earliest Gallen will take the mound is Sunday versus the Padres, but it's possible he gets some additional time, as team off days Thursday and Monday give Arizona some flexibility. • Zac Gallen (hamstring) won’t start on Friday
Diamondbacks’ manager Torey Lovullo told reporters Wednesday that Zac Gallen (hamstring) will not start on Friday.

Advice: Lovullo noted that Gallen’s hamstring is actually fine now, they just want to give him some extra rest. Expect the Diamondbacks to finalize their rotation plans for the weekend shortly. Rotoworld Wednesday, 3:32 pm

    • Resuming rehab assignment
Lowe (oblique/hamstring) will resume a rehab assignment with Triple-A Durham on Thursday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Advice: Lowe, who opened the season on the 10-day injured list with an oblique strain, was expected to be activated last weekend, but his return to the 26-man active roster was delayed after he experienced right hamstring tightness in a rehab game at Durham. However, the feeling is that Lowe experienced only a minor setback, and he's since been cleared to return to game action. Lowe will be evaluated on a day-to-day basis at Durham to determine when he can return from the IL to make his season debut for the big club. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 9:56 am
