    • Zach Eflin (back) likely to return this week
Zach Eflin (back) threw a 40-pitch bullpen session on Sunday without any issues and afterwards declared himself “ready to go”.

Advice: The 30-year-old right-hander is expected to rejoin the Rays’ rotation this week, perhaps on Wednesday against the Marlins in Miami. Prior to landing on the injured list with inflammation in his lower back, Eflin had registered a 4.12 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and a 44/4 K/BB ratio over 59 innings of work. Rotoworld Today, 5:36 am

    • Checks boxes in bullpen session
Eflin (back) threw a 40-pitch bullpen session Sunday, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Sunday's session was Eflin's second bullpen in the last four days. He threw two simulated innings and came away feeling good. The Rays haven't confirmed a date for Eflin's return from the 15-day injured list, but he could be activated as soon as Wednesday to start in the Rays' series finale in Miami. • Strikes out 10 in loss
Gray (7-3) took the loss Saturday versus the Phillies, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks while striking out 10 over five innings.

Advice: Gray reached double-digit strikeouts for the second time in 10 starts this year, but he received little run support after a shaky first inning. The right-hander has allowed at least four runs in three of his last five outings. For the season, he's at a 3.00 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 77:15 K:BB over 57 innings. Gray is projected to make his next start at home versus the Rockies. Rotowire.com Saturday, 8:21 pm

    • Gray strikes out 10 in loss Saturday
Sonny Gray allowed four runs in five innings and took the loss in the Cardinals’ 6-1 loss against the Phillies on Saturday.

Advice: Gray gave up five hits, walked three and struck out 10. The Phillies jumped on him early scoring three runs in the first inning. Gray was mostly in charge the rest of the way allowing only one more run and recording 10 punch outs. His 77 strikeouts this season put him inside the top 15 for starting pitchers in all off baseball. The 34-year-old right-hander is set to face the Rockies at home next week. • X-rays come back clean
Ginkel is day-to-day after X-rays on his left knee came back negative following Saturday's 10-5 win over the Mets, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports Saturday.

Advice: Ginkel took a 98.3 mile-per-hour comebacker to the inside of his left knee during his relief appearance in the sixth inning and was immediately lifted from the contest. Fortunately for Ginkel, he seems to be dealing with nothing more than bruising to his leg, and he disclosed after the game that he's already feeling better. Manager Torey Lovullo expressed optimism that Ginkel could be available out of the bullpen as soon as Sunday's series finale with the Mets, though the Diamondbacks may prefer to stay away from him for another day or two to afford him additional healing time. • Struck by comebacker
Ginkel was hit in the left leg by a comebacker during Saturday's game against the Mets and was removed from the game, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports. He threw one perfect inning before the incident.

Advice: Ginkel was the first arm out of the bullpen for the Diamondbacks on Saturday, replacing Slade Cecconi late in the fifth inning. The 30-year-old retired the first two batters he faced before getting hit by a 98 MPH comebacker from Brandon Nimmo, who was still thrown out at first. Bryce Jarvis replaced Ginkel on the mound. • Joe Musgrove lands on IL with elbow inflammation
Padres placed RHP Joe Musgrove on the 15-day injured list with right elbow inflammation.

Advice: Musgrove lasted just two starts before an elbow issue winds up sending him back on the shelf. Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reported that Musgrove is dealing with a recurring triceps/elbow issue, which “is not believed at this time to be a season-ending injury.” The fact that the term season-ending is even being brought up here isn’t an encouraging sign. It certainly doesn’t sound great and fantasy managers should anticipate Musgrove returning anytime soon. There should be some clarity on his status in the coming days once he undergoes some additional imaging to determine whether he’s dealing with any structural damage. Stay tuned. • Elbow issues return
The Padres placed Musgrove on the 15-day injured list Saturday with right elbow inflammation, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Advice: Musgrove was originally slated to start Saturday against the Royals, but he will now return to the injured list after experiencing further issues with his right elbow/triceps. The 31-year-old was able to return from the IL after 16 days following his first encounter with elbow problems in May, but the Padres will likely bring him back slower this time around to ensure his elbow is back to 100 percent the next time he takes the mound. Randy Vasquez was recalled from Triple-A to start in Musgrove's place Saturday and will likely remain in the Padres' rotation until Musgrove is able to return. Rotowire.com Saturday, 10:39 am

    • Scratched from start
Musgrove will not start as scheduled Saturday against the Royals.

Advice: The Padres recalled Randy Vasquez from Triple-A El Paso to start Saturday's contest, causing Musgrove's next start to be pushed back. It's unclear whether the 31-year-old is dealing with an injury or the Padres simply want to give him some extra rest, but the team should offer some clarity in the near future.
