    • Spencer Torkelson moves down to seventh spot
      Spencer Torkelson is hitting seventh and playing first base against the Yankees on Saturday.

      Advice: Torkelson continues to move down in the lineup, and it’s easy to justify with a slash of .212/.282/.288 over 132 plate appearances. The first-overall pick in 2020 was excellent in the second-half of the 2023 campaign, but that hasn’t carried over whatsoever in 2024.     • Quality in loss
      Weathers (2-3) took the loss Friday against the Athletics, allowing three runs on five hits and no walks over six innings. He struck out five.

      Advice: Despite yielding three runs, Weathers completed six innings to collect his second quality start of the season. Most importantly, the Miami lefty was able to control the free passes Friday night, allowing no walks for the first time since a June 15, 2023 start against Cleveland as member of the Padres.     • Craig Kimbrel strikes out side to earn save
      Craig Kimbrel returned to action and earned a save on Friday, striking out all three batters he faced versus the Reds.

      Advice: That’s quite the positive outing for Kimbrel after he blew a second straight save chance Sunday and then missed a few days with back soreness. He has a 2.92 ERA and a 20/6 K/BB ratio in 12 1/3 innings for the season. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:32 pm
       
    • Battling knee issue
      Manager Scott Servais said Friday that Kirby has been dealing with a right knee issue, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.

      Advice: Servais added that Kirby's knee isn't considered a major problem, but it was the reason why he was pulled from his start Friday after throwing just 88 pitches through six innings. The Mariners will keep an eye on the right-hander's condition, but at the moment it appears Kirby should still be able to make his next start -- tentatively scheduled for Thursday against Minnesota.     • Ryan Weathers allows three in loss to A’s
      Ryan Weathers gave up three runs in six innings of work to pick up a loss Friday to the Athletics.

      Advice: The southpaw gave up five hits without issuing a walk, and he struck out five. Two of the runs came on a homer from Brent Rooker, and Weathers also allowed a run-scoring single in the fifth. Not a terrible start — by definition it’s a Quality one — but not terribly impressive, either. Weathers shouldn’t be in fantasy lineups for his start against the Dodgers on Wednesday.     • Settles for no-decision
      Kirby allowed a run on four hits over six innings during a no-decision Friday. He struck out three during the loss to Houston.

      Advice: Kirby was in line for the win before Seattle's bullpen coughed up the lead. The lone run against him came via Jeremy Pena's RBI groundout in the sixth inning. Kirby was efficient Friday, throwing 60 of 88 pitches for strikes. He's allowed just one run while producing a stellar 22:2 K:BB over his last 18 frames. Of his seven starts this year, Kirby allowed two or fewer runs in five of them. However, he coughed up 13 combined runs in the other two. Kirby is currently projected to start in Minnesota next week.     • Earns save in return
      Kimbrel earned the save in Friday's 3-0 win over Cincinnati, striking out three in a perfect ninth inning.

      Advice: It was Kimbrel's first appearance in five days, as the veteran right-hander was dealing with back soreness. He certainly didn't show any signs of rust Friday, striking out the side to close out a shutout victory for his eighth save this season. Kimbrel had blown consecutive save chances before he was sidelined, allowing three runs in just a third of an inning.     • George Kirby holds Astros to one run in no-decision
      George Kirby gave up just a run over six innings against the Astros on Friday, but he didn’t factor into the decision.

      Advice: Kirby threw just 88 pitches before leaving Friday, and Mariners manager Scott Servais told reporters after the game that he had some issues with his right knee. Obviously, that’s something to keep an eye on. It was yet again a tremendous outing when Kirby was on the mound, however, and he’s allowed just the one earned run over his last three starts.     • Pulled after four
      Nola did not factor into the decision Friday, allowing two runs on four hits and four walks over four innings. He struck out four.

      Advice: Both of the Giants' runs came in the second inning on a Thairo Estrada double, though it certainly could've been a lot worse -- Nola needed 46 pitches to get through the frame, issuing four walks. The right-hander was ultimately pulled after throwing 89 pitches through four innings, as he failed to qualify for the win. Nola, who'd gone eight innings in each of his previous two starts, is 4-1 on the season with a 3.32 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 40:15 K:BB across seven outings (43.1 innings).
