    • Sitting down against lefty
Pederson isn't in Arizona's lineup for Friday's game against the Athletics.

Advice: Pederson will step out of the lineup Friday as the A's prepare to send southpaw JP Sears to the mound. Blaze Alexander will fill in as the Diamondbacks' designated hitter and bat second. Rotowire.com Friday, 2:50 pm
    • On bench again
Raley (shoulder) is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Twins.

Advice: Raley was scratched from Wednesday's game with shoulder soreness and, despite Thursday's team off day, he'll remain out of the starting nine for the series opener against Minnesota. Up to this point, all indications are that the injury isn't a long-term concern. Dominic Canzone, Julio Rodriguez and Mitch Haniger fill the outfield Friday. Rotowire.com Friday, 2:31 pm

    • Plays back-to-back days
Thomas (hamstring) started in center field and played seven innings for Triple-A Reno on Wednesday.

Advice: Thomas played in the field on back-to-back days, bolstering the Diamondbacks' hopes of having him rejoin the parent club this weekend against the Athletics. Per Arizona assistant general manager Mike Fitzgerald, the outfielder will play Friday and Saturday for the Aces. After that, he could return to the Diamondbacks, per Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports. Thomas is 1-for-7 in two games at Reno and 8-for-20 overall on the current rehab assignment, including a stint at the Arizona Complex League. Rotowire.com Thursday, 5:42 am
    • Filling in for Varsho again
Kiermaier will start in center field and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the Red Sox.

Advice: Kiermaier will pick up his fifth consecutive start Wednesday, though Daulton Varsho is on the bench with a back injury for a fourth day in a row. The 34-year-old Kiermaier at least showed some signs of life at the plate with a three-hit performance in Tuesday's 9-4 win, and another strong game Wednesday could put him back in the mix for more playing time in the outfield even after Varsho returns. Varsho could slide over to left field to make room for Kiermaier in center on a more frequent basis if the Blue Jays choose to scale back the playing time of Davis Schneider, who is hitting .135 dating back to June 6. • Luke Raley scratched due to sore shoulder
Luke Raley didn’t play Wednesday due to a sore shoulder, the Mariners finally disclosed.

Advice: They could have said this when they scratched him before the game, but that’s no fun. Manager Scott Servais hopes to have Raley back Friday after the off day tomorrow. Rotoworld Wednesday, 12:38 pm

    • Three hits in Tuesday's win
Kiermaier went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI in Tuesday's win over the Red Sox.

Advice: Getting the start in center field and batting ninth, Kiermaier produced his first multi-hit performance since May 8. The veteran defensive whiz came into the game slashing a woeful .111/.135/.194 over 38 plate appearances in June with a 46.2-percent strikeout rate, and only a recent back issue for Daulton Varsho has given Kiermaier consistent starts again. He remains a long way from fantasy utility, even in deep formats. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 7:52 am
