    • Plays back-to-back days
Thomas (hamstring) started in center field and played seven innings for Triple-A Reno on Wednesday.

Advice: Thomas played in the field on back-to-back days, bolstering the Diamondbacks' hopes of having him rejoin the parent club this weekend against the Athletics. Per Arizona assistant general manager Mike Fitzgerald, the outfielder will play Friday and Saturday for the Aces. After that, he could return to the Diamondbacks, per Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports. Thomas is 1-for-7 in two games at Reno and 8-for-20 overall on the current rehab assignment, including a stint at the Arizona Complex League. Rotowire.com Thursday, 5:42 am
    • Jose Miranda drives in three in win vs. D-Backs
Jose Miranda went 3-for-4 with two doubles, three RBI, and a run scored in the Twins’ 8-3 win over the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.

Advice: With the bases loaded in the second inning, Miranda put the Twins on top with a bases-clearing double off of Ryne Nelson to bring in three runs. He knocked a base hit in the third, then doubled once again in the fifth before scoring on a home run by Willi Castro. Miranda walked in the ninth to reach for the fourth time. The 25-year-old third baseman is slashing .293/.339/.495 with eight homers and 33 RBI across 224 plate appearances. Rotoworld Wednesday, 9:24 pm

    • Racks up two homers, six RBI
Higashioka went 3-for-4 with two home runs and six RBI in Wednesday's 8-5 win against the Nationals.

Advice: Higashioka drove in all but two of San Diego's eight runs. He swatted a two-run homer to kick off the scoring in the second inning and capped his offensive outburst with a grand slam in the eighth. The grand slam was the first of Higashioka's career, while the multi-homer effort was his fifth as a big leaguer. He's hitting only .207 on the season but has otherwise provided good production with eight homers and 20 RBI in 32 games. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 9:11 pm
    • Higashioka homers twice, plates six to lead Padres
Kyle Higashioka had a monster day at the dish in Wednesday’s 8-5 victory over the Nationals, going 3-for-6 with a pair of homers, three runs scored and six RBI.

Advice: The 34-year-old backstop got the scoring started in the ballgame with a 386-foot (107.2 mph EV) two-run blast off of Nationals’ southpaw DJ Herz in the second inning. He then singled and scored on an RBI knock by Jurickson Profar in the fourth. Higashioka then capped off the afternoon with a 390-foot (104.2 mph EV) grand slam off of Tanner Rainey in the eighth that made it 8-0 put the game out of reach. He’s now slashing .207/.240/.522 with eight homers and 20 RBI on the season. Rotoworld Wednesday, 3:47 pm
    • Filling in for Varsho again
Kiermaier will start in center field and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the Red Sox.

Advice: Kiermaier will pick up his fifth consecutive start Wednesday, though Daulton Varsho is on the bench with a back injury for a fourth day in a row. The 34-year-old Kiermaier at least showed some signs of life at the plate with a three-hit performance in Tuesday's 9-4 win, and another strong game Wednesday could put him back in the mix for more playing time in the outfield even after Varsho returns. Varsho could slide over to left field to make room for Kiermaier in center on a more frequent basis if the Blue Jays choose to scale back the playing time of Davis Schneider, who is hitting .135 dating back to June 6. • Getting rest day
Grandal is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Advice: Grandal will get a breather for the day game Wednesday after he started behind the dish in each of the Pirates' last three contests. Jason Delay will spell Grandal, forming a battery with starting pitcher Luis Ortiz. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 8:13 am
    • Three hits in Tuesday's win
Kiermaier went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI in Tuesday's win over the Red Sox.

Advice: Getting the start in center field and batting ninth, Kiermaier produced his first multi-hit performance since May 8. The veteran defensive whiz came into the game slashing a woeful .111/.135/.194 over 38 plate appearances in June with a 46.2-percent strikeout rate, and only a recent back issue for Daulton Varsho has given Kiermaier consistent starts again. He remains a long way from fantasy utility, even in deep formats. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 7:52 am
    • Salvages day with late homer
Toglia went 1-for-4 with a solo home run during Tuesday's 5-2 loss to the Astros.

Advice: Toglia was hitless in his first three at-bats but saved his stat line in the ninth inning by taking Josh Hader yard on a solo homer. The first baseman has homered on back-to-back nights and has belted four long balls in his last 10 games, batting 10-for-39 (.256) with nine runs and nine RBI during that stretch.
