    • Framber Valdez turns in complete game in 7-1 win
      Framber Valdez went the distance against the Angels tonight, striking out eight in the Astros’ 7-1 victory.

      Advice: This was the same team he gave up eight runs to on May 20. Valdez pitched a four-hitter in his seventh career complete game and first of 2024. He’s now 5-3 with a 3.53 ERA, and he’ll have a chance to keep it going against the Giants on Wednesday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:06 pm
       
    • Goes distance in win
      Valdez tossed a complete game to earn the win Friday over the Angels, allowing one run on four hits and a walk while striking out eight over nine innings.

      Advice: The Astros' bullpen was fairly fresh, but Valdez took care of business himself in his seventh career complete game. The lone mistake on his line was a Kevin Pillar solo home run in the second inning. Valdez has quality starts in four of his last five outings, and his strong performance Friday lowered his ERA to 3.53 with a 1.15 WHIP and 50:18 K:BB over 63.2 innings through 10 starts this season.     • Teoscar Hernández delivers in 11th in Dodgers’ win
      Teoscar Hernández went 2-for-4 and doubled in two runs in the 11th to propel the Dodgers past the Yankees 2-1 on Friday.

      Advice: It was a scoreless game until Hernández delivered the contest’s first big hit off Ian Hamilton in the 11th. It actually gave him his first multi-RBI game since May 14.     • Sale strikes out 10 in loss to Nationals Friday
      Chris Sale allowed two runs in seven innings and took the loss against the Nationals on Friday.

      Advice: Sale gave up five hits, walked one and struck out 10. It was an impressive bounce back performance after he allowed eight runs in his last start. Sale has been tremendous at times this season. While he has a 3.01 ERA on the year, his xFIP is even better at 2.43. The 35-year-old left-hander is set to face the Orioles on the road next week.     • Nick Lodolo limits Cubs to one run in victory
      Nick Lodolo held the Cubs to one run in six innings and struck out seven in the Reds’ 3-2 victory Friday.

      Advice: A Dansby Swanson homer was the only damage. Lodolo picked up his sixth win in nine starts this year, matching his total in 26 starts between 2022 and ’23. He’ll take a 2.92 ERA into his next start versus the Reds. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:43 pm
       
    • Rebounds in losing effort
      Sale (8-2) took the loss Friday against the Nationals, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk over seven innings. He struck out 10.

      Advice: It was a strong bounce-back effort from Sale after he surrendered eight runs against Oakland in his last start. However, Atlanta couldn't get on the board until the eighth inning in an eventual 2-1 defeat. Sale now has eight or more strikeouts in six of his last seven outings. His ERA sits at 3.01 with a 0.94 WHIP and 92:11 K:BB across 12 starts (74.2 innings) this year. Sale's currently in line for a road matchup with the Orioles in his next outing.     • Contreras (forearm) expects to return before July
      Willson Contreras told reporters that he expects to return from his forearm injury before July.

      Advice: When asked if he could return as a designated hitter instead of a backstop, Contreras answered with a convincing “hell no.” The backstop did say a return against Chicago next week seemed a little fast ,but he does appear like he’ll beat his All-Star game timeline.     • Touches 90 mph in sim game
      Kershaw (shoulder) hit 90 mph during his two-inning simulated game Friday, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.

      Advice: Friday's session was the second simulated game for Kershaw. The velocity he showed is a good sign that the veteran southpaw is progressing well through his offseason shoulder surgery.     • Clayton Kershaw touches 90 mph in sim game
      Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) touched 90 mph on the gun during a two-inning simulated game in California on Friday.

      Advice: The Dodgers have yet to schedule Kershaw’s first rehab start, but it might not be far off. First, he’ll throw another sim game next week. Kershaw is coming back from November surgery to repair his shoulder capsule and ligaments. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:29 pm
