    • Stuck with tough loss Monday
Schmidt (2-1) took the loss Monday as the Yankees were downed 2-0 by the Orioles, allowing one run on three hits and three walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out five.

Advice: A solo shot by Gunnar Henderson in the first inning accounted for all the damage off the right-hander, but his teammates couldn't solve Grayson Rodriguez and the Baltimore bullpen. Schmidt exited after 92 pitches (56 strikes) and just missed recording his first quality start of the season. He'll take a 3.19 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 34:13 K:BB through 31 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come at home this weekend against the Tigers. Rotowire.com Today, 7:03 pm
    • Brandon Nimmo hits leadoff homer in loss to Cubs
Brandon Nimmo belted a leadoff homer on Monday in the Mets’ loss to the Cubs.

Advice: Nimmo took Cubs starter Jameson Taillon deep to open the ballgame with his third long ball of the season. It was the first time he’s gone deep since a two-home explosion back on April 8. Unfortunately, it was all New York’s offense would muster for the remainder of the contest as they wound up with just three additional hits against Taillon and relievers Mark Leiter Jr. and Héctor Neris. • Clarke Schmidt strikes out five in loss versus O’s
Clarke Schmidt allowed three hits and one earned run while striking out five batters in 5 2/3 innings on Monday against the Orioles.

Advice: Besides a lead off home run to Gunnar Henderson, Schmidt pitched well against a potent Baltimore offense. After the first inning when he allowed that home run and a single to Ryan O’Hearn, the 28-year-old hurler allowed just one hit in his final four innings. He now holds a solid 3.19 ERA, 1.39 WHIP with a 34/13 K/BB ratio in his six starts this season. Rotoworld Today, 6:07 pm
    • Tee work from both sides of plate
Edman (wrist) took swings off a tee from both sides of the plate last week, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Advice: Edman had been limited to hitting only from the right side due to lingering concerns about his surgically repaired right wrist. However, he's now progressed to hitting from both sides of the dish and has done so without any soreness. Edman will continue a hitting progression as tolerated and appears far off from a return, but he's progressing. Rotowire.com Today, 3:18 pm

    • Gets day off
Rosario is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Brewers.

Advice: Rosario is on the bench for the first time since April 13, breaking a stretch of 14 consecutive starts during which he slashed .351/.373/.509 with two home runs, two stolen bases, nine RBI and seven runs. He's seen action mostly in right field and second base during that time and should continue to maintain a near-everyday role so long as he remains productive at the dish. Rotowire.com Today, 3:09 pm

    • Snaps slump Sunday
Volpe went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run, an additional run scored, a stolen base and two walks in Sunday's 15-5 rout over Milwaukee.

Advice: After a scorching start to the season, Volpe had fallen back a bit in the second half of April, as he came into Sunday batting .157 with no homers and a 30.9 percent strikeout rate over 12 games since April 15. He turned things around -- at least temporarily -- by reaching four times against Milwaukee on Sunday, with his fifth-inning three-run homer opening the floodgates for a Yankees offensive outburst late in the contest. Despite his recent slump, Volpe still has strong overall numbers on the campaign -- he's slashing .282/.368/.418 with three home runs, 13 RBI, 20 runs and seven stolen bases through 126 plate appearances. • Amed Rosario gets Monday off vs. Brewers
Amed Rosario is not in the lineup for Monday’s game against the Brewers.

Advice: Rosario has been excellent to begin the year with a .340 average over 97 at-bats, but the Rays will give him a day off Monday against the Brew Crew. Niko Goodrum gets the start at second base while Rosario rests. Rotoworld Today, 1:43 pm

    • Craig Kimbrel day-to-day with back tightness
Orioles manager Brandon Hyde told reporters Monday that Craig Kimbrel is day-to-day with back tightness.

Advice: Kimbrel left Sunday’s appearance against the Athletics with tightness in his back, and he’s considered day-to-day at this point. The 35-year-old may not appear for a day or two, but for now, it doesn’t appear this is a long-term injury. Yennier Cano will likely get the save chances for the Orioles while Kimbrel is away. • Day-to-day with back tightness
Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said Monday that Kimbrel (back) is considered day-to-day, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Kimbrel failed to record an out and was charged with two earned runs and his second consecutive blown save in Sunday's 7-6 loss to the Athletics before being lifted from the contest due to upper-back tightness. The team is hopeful that Kimbrel can avoid a stint on the 15-day injured list, but he presumably won't be available Monday against the Yankees, and potentially a few more days beyond that. Yennier Cano is the favorite to close for the Orioles while Kimbrel recovers. Rotowire.com Today, 1:08 pm
