    • Hits game-tying blast
Santander went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk in Saturday's 5-4 extra-innings win over the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Santander's eighth-inning blast was what ultimately forced extra innings Saturday. The outfielder has gone deep three times and driven in seven runs over his last five games. For the season, Santander is sporting a .217/.301/.449 slash line with seven long balls, 25 RBI, 20 runs scored, nine doubles and a triple. He still has yet to attempt a stolen base this season. Santander's production is generally in line with what he did last year, aside from modest dips in his rate stats. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:55 pm

    • Set to start Monday for Detroit
The Tigers are set to promote Manning from Triple-A Toledo to start Monday against the Marlins, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Advice: Manning is set to rejoin the big club after Kenta Maeda was placed on the 15-day injured list due to a viral illness. Manning last started for the Tigers as the 27th man against the Cardinals on April 30, when he gave up four runs on seven hits and two walks over 4.2 innings while striking out seven in a no-decision. The 26-year-old right-hander holds a 0-1 record over three major-league starts this season with a 4.24 ERA and 1.18 WHIP over 17 innings. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:04 pm

    • Likely Maeda replacement
Manning will likely rejoin the big-league rotation with Kenta Maeda (viral illness) being placed on the 15-day injured list Saturday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Jack Flaherty is currently listed as the starter for Sunday's game against the Astros, but given that Manning was scratched from his Saturday start for Toledo, it's possible he could start Sunday, or at least Monday against the Marlins. Manning has a 4.24 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 17 strikeouts in 17 innings through three MLB starts this year. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:50 pm

    • Homers in loss
Seager went 2-for-3 with a walk, a home run and two RBI in Friday's 4-2 loss the Rockies.

Advice: Seager launched a solo home run to lead off the sixth inning then walked with the bases loaded an inning later. He struggled through the first five weeks of the season -- perhaps attributable to missing much of spring training after undergoing hernia surgery in January -- and his batting average was .219 as of May 2. Since then, Seager has hit safely in six of seven games, going 9-for-28 (.321) with two home runs and seven RBI. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:37 am

    • Builds up to 45 pitches
Cavalli (elbow) threw 45 pitches over the equivalent of 2.2 innings in a live bullpen session Friday at the Nationals' spring training complex in West Palm Beach, Fla., Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.

Advice: The Nationals are being deliberate with the 25-year-old's recovery from March 2023 Tommy John surgery, but Cavalli is in the home stretch. The team hasn't indicated when he might begin a rehab assignment, but it appears he could join the big-league rotation in late June or early July. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:21 am

    • Productive in Friday's win
Happ went 2-for-5 with a double, an RBI and a run scored in Friday's 7-2 win over the Pirates.

Advice: Happ is off to a bit of a slow start this season, as he's batting just .231 overall with a .661 OPS, but he's been better in May. The outfielder is batting .281 this month with a .707 OPS. What's keeping him from really taking off is a lack of power. Happ is still stuck on just one home run through 36 games after clubbing 21 long balls last year. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:59 am

    • Stuck with loss in quality start
Pfaadt (1-3) took the loss Friday as the Diamondbacks fell 4-2 to the Orioles, giving up three runs on five hits and two walks over six innings. He failed to strike out a batter.

Advice: The 25-year-old right-hander produced his third straight quality start and fourth of the season on 88 pitches (56 strikes), but Pfaadt generated only six swinging strikes as he came up empty in the strikeout department for the first time in 26 big-league starts. In fact, he'd never fanned fewer than three batters in an outing before Friday. Pfaadt will take a 4.60 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 42:8 K:BB through 47 innings into his next start, which lines up to come at home next week against the Reds. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:09 am

    • Resumes throwing
Rodriguez (shoulder) began a throwing program out to 45 feet Friday, the Associated Press reports.

Advice: A recent MRI on the shoulder showed positive results, and Rodriguez resumed throwing again. The left-hander was on a throwing program in early April but had it paused when he felt discomfort during a bullpen session April 9. Shortly thereafter he was moved to the 60-day injured list. • Goes yard again Friday
Ramirez went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Friday's 6-3 loss to the White Sox.

Advice: Ramirez has gone 8-for-23 (.348) over his last six games, and half of his hits in that span have left the yard. He started the year slowly from a power standpoint, but the third baseman is up to nine homers, 33 RBI and a .471 slugging percentage through 38 contests thanks to his recent surge. He's still a little light for batting average (.245), but that's nothing to be concerned about while he's squaring up the ball well. Rotowire.com Friday, 10:26 pm
