    • Earns second win
Abbott (2-4) allowed two runs on six hits and a walk while striking out two over five innings to earn the win Friday over the Giants.

Advice: Abbott gave up a solo home run to Thairo Estrada in the first inning and an RBI single to Tyler Fitzgerald in the second. After that, Abbott was able to settle in to earn his first win in five starts. The two strikeouts were a season low, but he's walked just one batter over his last three outings combined, though he's also given up five homers in that span. The 24-year-old is now at a 3.35 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 37:12 K:BB over 43 innings across eight starts this season. Abbott is projected to make his next start on the road in Arizona. • Andrew Abbott goes five, gives up two vs. Giants
Andrew Abbott surrendered two runs over five innings in a win Friday against the Giants.

Advice: Abbott didn’t have his best swing-and-miss stuff, as he struck out only two while throwing 88 pitches. He didn’t issue a walk, however, and after giving up runs in the first and second inning, he settled down quite nicely. The southpaw sees his ERA tick up slightly from 3.32 to 3.35, but all things considered, this was a good outing for Abbott. He’ll face the D-Backs next week in Arizona. • Yennier Cano records second save versus D-backs
Yennier Cano got his second save Friday after working a scoreless ninth versus the Diamondbacks.

Advice: The Orioles are giving Craig Kimbrel a break, so Cano is the clear favorite for saves in the pen for the short term. If Kimbrel has any meltdowns in the near future, Cano might take on the closer’s role permanently. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:32 pm

    • Wilyer Abreu sits against southpaw on Friday
Wilyer Abreu is not in the Red Sox’ starting lineup for Friday night’s tilt against the Nationals.

Advice: While Abreu did draw a start against a left-hander on Thursday, he’s not in the lineup for a matchup against Patrick Corbin and the Nationals on Friday evening. Rob Refsnyder will start as the team’s designated hitter on Friday night and will bat second for the Red Sox. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:22 pm

    • Cubs place Dansby Swanson (knee) on 10-day IL
Cubs placed INF Dansby Swanson on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to May 8, with a right knee sprain.

Advice: Swanson sat out of Wednesday’s contest due to soreness in his knee, and now he’ll be out for at least an additional week while recovering. Fortunately, the Cubs also got good news on the injury front on Friday with Seiya Suzuki being activated from the injured list in a corresponding move. Expect Nico Hoerner to slide over and cover shortstop while Swanson is shelved, leaving Miles Mastrobuoni to see increased action at second base. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:49 pm

    • Placed on 10-day IL
Swanson (knee) was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday, retroactive to May 8, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Advice: Swanson missed Wednesday's game against the Padres with knee soreness stemming from an awkward slide that occurred April 25, and the injury has now been deemed a right knee sprain. Nico Hoerner slotted in at shortstop Wednesday while Miles Mastrobuoni got the start at second base -- a lineup that could become the norm while Swanson sits. The shortstop will be eligible to return May 18. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:45 pm

    • Not starting against Nats
Abreu is not in the starting lineup for Friday's outing against Washington, FantasyLabs MLB reports.

Advice: The rookie outfielder will start from the dugout as Boston takes on left-hander Patrick Corbin. Abreu is slashing .276/.368/.439 with 13 RBI and five stolen bases on the year. Tyler O'Neill will move from his normal left field spot to fill in for Abreu in right. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 12:45 pm

    • Takes loss Thursday
Stroman (2-2) took the loss against Houston on Thursday, allowing four runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out five batters over 5.2 innings.

Advice: Stroman got off to a poor beginning Thursday, giving up three first-inning runs on homers by Yordan Alvarez and Jon Singleton. He rebounded to keep Houston off the scoreboard over the following three frames before being tagged for another run in the fifth. Stroman at least allowed New York to keep within striking range, but this was his second time giving up four runs over his past three starts. The veteran right-hander has been only moderately effective for the Yankees thus far, posting a 3.80 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 40:22 K:BB through 42.2 innings. Rotowire.com Thursday, 11:15 pm

    • Marcus Stroman serves up two homers in loss
Marcus Stroman was tagged for four runs over 5 2/3 innings on Thursday in a loss to the Astros.

Advice: Stroman coughed up a pair of first-inning homers and also served up a run-scoring single to Jeremy Peña in the fifth inning, which was enough to saddle him with a loss in a low-scoring affair at Yankee Stadium. He struck out five and also issued a pair of walks. He’ll bring a serviceable 3.80 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 40/22 K/BB ratio across 42 2/3 innings (eight starts) into a road matchup on Wednesday against the Twins. Rotoworld Thursday, 5:04 pm
