    • Keeps rolling with seventh save
Phillips earned a save against the Nationals on Thursday, striking out two batters in a perfect inning of work.

Advice: Phillips didn't have any trouble protecting Los Angeles' one-run ninth-inning lead, striking out the first two batters he faced before inducing a game-ending groundout. The right-hander has yielded just one earned run over 10.2 innings on the season, giving him a minuscule 0.84 ERA. Phillips has converted all seven of his save chances as he continues to build his case as one of the league's most reliable closers. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:24 pm
    • One out shy of quality start
Assad didn't factor into the decision Thursday, allowing one run on four hits and a walk over 5.2 innings against the Astros. He struck out five.

Advice: Although Assad was only at 85 pitches, he was pulled one out before becoming eligible for the quality start after allowing a pair of baserunners. Although Assad has only completed six innings once in five starts, he boasts a 2.00 ERA and a 26:9 K:BB with a 2-0 record. He's tentatively scheduled for a start against the Mets on Tuesday. • Heating up
Devers went 3-for-5 with a run scored in Thursday's 6-4 loss to Cleveland.

Advice: Devers produced a second consecutive three-hit effort after missing five games with a knee injury. He's 6-for-9 with a double, home run, two RBI and two runs scored in his two games back. The downtime appears to have given the balky shoulder he was dealing with during Boston's homestand last week time to heal. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:29 pm
    • Evan Phillips nets seventh save Thursday vs. Nats
Evan Phillips struck out two in a perfect ninth inning on Thursday against the Nationals to record his seventh save of the season.

Advice: Phillips was called upon to guard a one-run lead in the ninth inning and needed just 14 pitches (10 strikes) to slam the door for the second time in the brief three-game series. The 29-year-old righty has converted each of his seven save opportunities this season to go along with a microscopic 0.84 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 13/4 K/BB ratio across 10 2/3 innings (11 appearances). • Javier Assad holds Astros to one run over 5 2/3
Javier Assad struck out five over 5 2/3 innings while allowing just a run in a no-decision against the Astros on Thursday.

Advice: Assad scattered four hits and issued one free pass. The right-hander got off to a rough start while allowing a run in the first, but he was excellent for the next five-plus frames. Unfortunately for him, the Cubs and fantasy managers who started Assad, he didn’t get the run support necessary to qualify for a victory. He’ll be back on the bump in New York next week against the Mets. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:09 pm

    • Hoskins has three hits, two RBI in win
Rhys Hoskins went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI in a win over the Pirates on Thursday.

Advice: Hoskins is hitting just .226/.320/.452 on the year but does have five home runs and 17 RBI in 23 games. He’s been making solid contact with a barrel rate of just under 13 percent and has just 20 strikeouts in his 23 games, so at some point, that level of quality contact will lead to a hot streak. Maybe this is the start of one? Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:19 pm

    • Swipes two bags in win
Witt went 1-for-3 with a walk, one RBI, two stolen bases and one run scored in Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Blue Jays.

Advice: Witt's RBI single in the fifth inning produced the decisive run in the contest. He's gone 7-for-20 (.350) with three RBI and three steals over his last five games. He continues to hit well out of the No. 2 spot in the order, slashing .317/.367/.574 with four home runs, seven steals, 11 RBI, 21 runs scored, eight doubles and three triples over 109 plate appearances. Witt's success has been a driving force behind the Royals' surprising 15-10 start to the campaign. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:55 am
    • Sits against southpaw
Biggio is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Royals.

Advice: With the Blue Jays and Royals concluding their series with a day game after a night game and with a southpaw (Cole Ragans) on the hill for Kansas City, the lefty-hitting Biggio will get the afternoon off. Isiah Kiner-Falefa will step in for Biggio at the keystone. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:13 am

    • Likely back at third base Saturday
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Thursday that Devers (knee) isn't comfortable enough yet to play third base but will likely return to the position Saturday versus the Cubs, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

Advice: The good news is Devers is well enough to hit, as he'll be the club's designated hitter again Thursday after homering from the spot in his return to the lineup Wednesday. The Cubs are starting left-hander Shota Imanaga on Friday, so it's possible the lefty-hitting Devers will rest that day before returning to third base Saturday. With Devers (twice) and Tyler O'Neill (once) occupying the DH spot the last three days, Masataka Yoshida has been on the bench. However, it sounds like Yoshida should be back in there soon enough.
