    • Max Scherzer (back) will make another rehab start
Max Scherzer (back) will make his next minor league rehab start on Tuesday for Double-A Frisco.

Advice: Scherzer threw 52 pitches (32 strikes) and allowed three runs over 2 1/3 innings on Wednesday in his first rehab outing for Triple-A Round Rock. It doesn’t come as a total shock that the 39-year-old veteran looked a bit shaky in his first start since offseason back surgery, and he’ll get at least one additional rehab tune-up prior to returning to the Rangers’ starting rotation mix in early May. • Next rehab outing set for Tuesday
Scherzer (back) is scheduled to make his next rehab start Tuesday with Double-A Frisco, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Advice: Scherzer will look to push up his pitch count in his second rehab outing after he struck out four over 2.1 innings (52 pitches) while allowing three earned runs on five hits and no walks in his 2024 debut Wednesday with Triple-A Round Rock. Since Scherzer missed all of spring training while completing his recovery from Dec. 15 surgery to address a herniated disc in his back, he could require an additional rehab start after Tuesday to get fully stretched out. The right-hander looks on track to return from the 15-day injured list to make his season debut for the Rangers in early May. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:34 am

    • Not in Thursday's lineup
Hayes is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Brewers, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.

Advice: Hayes looks to be getting some routine maintenance for a day game after a night game. With Hayes on the bench, the Pirates will shift Jared Triolo over to third base Thursday and give Alika Williams a start at second base. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:38 am
    • Logs three-hit night in win
Langford went 3-for-3 with a walk, double and run scored in Wednesday's 5-1 win over Seattle.

Advice: The three-hit performance was the first of the season for Langford. The double was just his fourth extra-base hit over 88 at-bats (.318 slugging, .057 ISO), but the rookie outfielder is getting on base with consistency (.340 OBP, 10.2% walk rate). He's reached base safely in 19 of 23 games and is hitting .261 with a .658 OPS to open his MLB career. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 5:32 am
    • Paul Skenes dominates again Wednesday at Triple-A
Pirates RHP prospect Paul Skenes struck out seven and was charged with two runs (one earned) over 4 1/3 innings on Wednesday for Triple-A Indianapolis.

Advice: Skenes finally gave up an earned run, which sent his ERA soaring to an astronomical 0.53 in the process. The 21-year-old top pitching prospect built up his workload to 71 pitches (50 strikes) and continues to flash triple-digit velocity with ease. It’s difficult to understand Pittsburgh’s rationale at this juncture behind having him continue building volume in the minor leagues instead of contributing in the major leagues. Regardless of when the Pirates finally decide to call him up, Skenes appears poised to make a significant impact for fantasy managers and should be rostered in all formats. • Tosses 52 pitches on rehab
Scherzer (back) allowed three runs on five hits while striking out four over 2.1 innings in a rehab appearance for Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday.

Advice: Scherzer kicked off a rehab assignment Wednesday, giving up a pair of home runs while running his pitch count to 52, including 11 swinging strikes. That's in line with his progression after throwing 40 in his most recent live batting practice session. Scherzer's velocity was down across the board, per Kennedi Landry of MLB.com, but that is to be expected from the right-hander, who is working his way back from offseason back surgery. • Smacks two homers in win
Lindor went 4-for-5 with two home runs and four RBI in Wednesday's win over the Giants.

Advice: Lindor provided most of the offense for the Mets on Wednesday, launching a two-run homer in the top of the third to put New York on the board before adding a second two-run shot in the ninth. The shortstop finished with season highs in hits and RBI, raising his average to .206 in the process. Lindor has gotten off to a slow start to begin the campaign but has now registered multiple hits in five of his last 10 games. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:41 am
    • Surrenders first run at Triple-A
Skenes allowed one earned run on five hits and one walk while striking out seven across 4.1 innings with Triple-A Indianapolis on Wednesday.

Advice: Skenes faced adversity at the highest level of the minors for the first time, as he surrendered his first run after 14.1 innings of work. There were still plenty of positives to take away from the outing, however, the most notable of which is that he ramped up to 71 pitches. The Pirates have refused to give any indication of when Skenes will make his big-league debut, but there is a current opening in the rotation with Marco Gonzales (elbow) sidelined. • Wyatt Langford reaches four times against Mariners
Wyatt Langford went 3-for-3 with a run scored and a walk against the Mariners on Wednesday.

Advice: Langford has his best day at the plate so far, reaching in all four plate appearances. He hit a hard double off the center field wall in the second, but stumbled going around second and was caught on the bases. He drew a walk in the fourth and added two more base hits, scoring on a single by Jonah Heim in the sixth. The 22-year-old outfielder is now slashing .261/.340/.318 with 11 runs scored across 100 plate appearances. Rotoworld Wednesday, 8:19 pm
