    • Resting against lefty
Peralta is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies.

Advice: As per usual, the lefty-hitting Peralta will exit the lineup with a southpaw (Ranger Suarez) on the hill for the opposition. Peralta's absence will open up the designated hitter spot for Manny Machado. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 8:00 am

    • Loses roster spot
The Cubs designated Gomes for assignment Wednesday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: Chicago has signed Tomas Nido to take Gomes' roster spot and serve as the primary backup to top catcher Miguel Amaya. Gomes, who turns 37 years old in July, has a dreadful .421 OPS and 37.5-percent strikeout rate over 33 games this season. He's making $6 million in 2024, and the Cubs will have to eat the remainder of that salary after Gomes clears waivers. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 7:58 am

    • Report: Cubs replacing Yan Gomes with Tomás Nido
The Cubs are designating Yan Gomes for assignment and signing Tomás Nido to replace him, according to Bleacher Nation’s Michael Cerami.

Advice: The end can come quickly sometimes. The usually solid Gomes actually performed a little better than his career norms at age 35 last season, but he’s really slipped both offensively and defensively this year. Nido won’t help with the offense, but he is an excellent defender and he might cut into Miguel Amaya’s playing time some. Rotoworld Wednesday, 7:40 am

    • A’s officially recall Lawrence Butler on Tuesday
Athletics recalled OF Lawrence Butler from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Advice: Butler returns to Oakland’s outfield mix after slashing .255/.349/.418 with four homers and seven steals in 126 plate appearances over 27 games for Triple-A Las Vegas following a mid-May demotion. The 23-year-old is one of the most intriguing young prospects in the game from a raw talent standpoint, but holds a lackluster .570 OPS with six homers and three steals in 250 plate appearances over 83 games in the big leagues over the last two years. • Officially promoted
The Athletics recalled Butler from Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday.

Advice: Butler was sent to the minors in mid-May after slashing .179/.281/.274 through 121 major-league plate appearances. He has since improved while in Las Vegas, posting a .767 OPS over 27 games. Seth Brown was outrighted to Triple-A in a corresponding move, opening the door for Butler to receive regular playing time in Oakland's outfield. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 2:10 pm
    • Set to join major-league roster
Butler is expected to be called up from Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Butler looks to be set to return to the major-league roster after being sent down in mid-May. With J.D. Davis being designated for assignment Monday, Butler will likely slot in as his replacement with Oakland. Butler has produced a .255 average with four home runs, nine RBI, 10 runs scored and seven stolen bases over 110 at-bats in 27 contests with Las Vegas since being demoted. • Report: A’s set to call up Lawrence Butler
The A’s are set to recall Lawrence Butler from Triple-A Las Vegas, according to MLB.com’s Martín Gallegos.

Advice: It’ll be interesting to see what the countermove is here. Unless someone is hurt, perhaps the A’s are ready to give up on Seth Brown or JD Davis. Dropping Daz Cameron seems like the other alternative. Butler has hit .255/.349/.418 since his demotion in May. Rotoworld Monday, 6:58 pm
    • Taking seat Monday
Flores is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Cubs.

Advice: Flores had started at first base in each of the Giants' last five games, with three starts coming versus lefties and two coming versus right-handers. Though the Giants seem content to deploy Flores as their primary first baseman rather than a platoon bat while LaMonte Wade (hamstring) is on the injured list, Flores will nonetheless give way to rookie Trenton Brooks on Monday. • Sitting against lefty
Peralta is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Phillies.

Advice: The lefty-hitting Peralta will hit the bench for the series opener while the Phillies bring southpaw Cristopher Sanchez to the hill. Now that Manny Machado is back to playing third base again after he had previously made four consecutive starts at designated hitter following his return from a four-game absence due to a strained hip flexor, Peralta should have a regular spot in the lineup at DH when the Padres face right-handed pitchers.
