    • Hit hard in latest rehab appearance
Alexander (ribs) allowed five runs (four earned) on three hits, a walk and a hit batsman without recording an out during a relief appearance for Triple-A Las Vegas against Round Rock on Friday.

Advice: The veteran southpaw had fired a scoreless frame with two strikeouts against San Jose in his second rehab outing Tuesday, but Friday's appearance saw Alexander fall apart in alarming fashion. Given the results, Alexander, who threw 22 pitches Friday, may be in line for at least one more rehab appearance in order to build some momentum before being activated. • Hit hard in no-decision
Nelson came away with a no-decision in Saturday's 5-4 extra-innings loss to the Orioles, giving up three runs on 10 hits over 4.2 innings. He struck out three without walking a batter.

Advice: Half of the hits off Nelson went for extra bases, including a pair of doubles plus a triple by Ryan Mountcastle and a solo homer by Gunnar Henderson. Nelson has lasted past five innings only once in six starts this season, and he'll carry a 5.33 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and 19:6 K:BB through 25.1 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come at home next weekend against the Tigers. • Secures first save
Brebbia earned a save against the Guardians on Saturday by retiring all three batters he faced, including one by strikeout, in the ninth inning.

Advice: Michael Kopech has emerged as Chicago's primary closer early in the campaign, but manager Pedro Grifol opted to go to Brebbia in the ninth Saturday with the team holding a two-run lead. The right-hander got the job done, setting down the side in order on 14 pitches for his first major-league save since 2018. It's unclear why Kopech wasn't used despite getting Friday off -- it's worth noting that he notched back-to-back saves Wednesday and Thursday -- but if he has to miss time for any reason, Brebbia would be among a group of White Sox relievers who could snap up any save opportunities that arise. • Shohei Ohtani leaves game with tightness in back
Shohei Ohtani was removed from Saturday night’s battle against the Padres due to tightness in his back.

Advice: As of now, Dodgers’ skipper Dave Roberts is calling his level of concern “minimal”, though he acknowledged that Ohtani would likely get a day off on Sunday to err on the side of caution. It doesn’t sound like the superstar slugger should be looking at any sort of extended absence, but it’s a situation worth monitoring. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:46 pm

    • Shows improvement in second start
Clevinger allowed one run on four hits and no walks while striking out five batters over 4.2 innings in a no-decision against Cleveland on Saturday.

Advice: Clevinger struggled mightily in his season debut Monday, giving up four runs (three earned) on six hits and four walks over two innings. The veteran looked much better Saturday, yielding just a fourth-inning run while cutting the free passes entirely out of his stat line. Clevinger needed just one more out to qualify for the win, but he was pulled for a lefty reliever after giving up a single to the final batter he faced in the fifth frame. Despite that minor disappointment, this was a promising outing considering his disastrous previous start, and it should help him as he works to push up his pitch count after missing spring training and signing with Chicago in early April. • Nursing back tightness
Ohtani was removed from Saturday's game versus the Padres due to back tightness, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Advice: Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said his level of concern regarding the injury is "minimal," but the skipper is leaning toward holding Ohtani out of Sunday's lineup as a precaution. Roberts will wait to see how Ohtani feels Sunday morning before making a final determination. Before exiting Saturday's contest, Ohtani went 0-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. • Better in second start
Black allowed a run on four hits and two walks while striking out two over 4.1 innings in a no-decision versus the Reds on Saturday.

Advice: Black put in a solid effort, though he walked two of the first three batters he faced in the fifth inning, and that was enough to end his second career start. The only run on his line was a solo shot from Elly De La Cruz in the fourth. Black has given up six runs on 12 hits, including two homers, over his first 8.2 major-league innings. Blake Snell (thigh) is beginning a rehab assignment Sunday, so it's possible Black may be kept in the majors for one or more starts depending on how long Snell's rehab takes. If he gets another turn through the rotation, Black is projected for a home start versus the Rockies, though the Giants could also skip his turn since they have an off day Thursday. • Starting Sunday in Pittsburgh
Hendricks (back) will rejoin the Cubs' rotation on Sunday in Pittsburgh, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Advice: Hendricks had been slated to make one more rehab start, but Jameson Taillon (back) isn't quite ready to start Sunday so Hendricks will take the ball that day for the big club instead. The veteran hurler has been sidelined for the last three weeks with a lower-back strain but pitched well in two rehab outings, allowing three runs with a 13:3 K:BB in 9.1 frames. Hendricks held a woeful 12.00 ERA in five starts before getting injured, so fantasy mangers certainly need to see something positive before entrusting the righty. • Kyle Hendricks (back) set to start for Cubs Sunday
Kyle Hendricks (back) will be activated from the injured list to start for the Cubs on Sunday afternoon against the Pirates.

Advice: The soft-tossing right-hander has really struggled through his first five starts on the season, registering a 12.00 ERA, 2.10 WHIP and a 16/7 K/BB ratio over 21 innings. It’s a decent matchup, but those looking for streaming options in fantasy leagues should steer clear. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:38 pm
