    • Takes batting practice
Bryant (back) took batting practice prior to Friday's game against the Rangers, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Bryant began the session cautiously, just getting the ball out of the infield. However, he was able to pull the ball over the fence by his final swings, a positive sign for his recovery. There hasn't been a date set yet, but Bryant is expected to begin a rehab assignment soon. • Pops first homer
Vaughn went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Friday against the Guardians.

Advice: Vaughn finally popped his first home run of the season when he took Pedro Avila deep in the eighth inning. He entered the game with only eight extra-base hits across 146 plate appearances, all of which were doubles. Overall, Vaughn is hitting just .196/.253/.275 across 150 plate appearances. • Jake Bauers goes 2-for-3, triples in rout
Jake Bauers followed up his homer Thursday by going 2-for-3 with a triple, two RBI, a walk and a steal against the Cardinals on Friday.

Advice: There was a legitimate argument for DFAing Bauers and keeping Tyler Black after Christian Yelich came off the IL, but it was a weaker one if Yelich was going to DH frequently. Bauers thinks the Brewers made the right call, and he’s raised his OPS from .639 to .732 the last two days. He’ll play against most righties for now, though that’s not certain to last. • Josh Bell plates two as Marlins fall to Phillies
Josh Bell doubled and drove in a pair of runs on Friday night as the Marlins were crushed by the Phillies in Miami.

Advice: Bell did his best to avoid a shutout at least, smacking a two-run double off of Giovanny Soto in the eighth inning that pulled the Marlins to within six runs at 8-2. He finished the night 1-for-3 plus a walk and is now hitting a putrid .204/.295/.313 with four homers and 15 RBI on the season. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:08 pm

    • Day off Friday
Renfroe isn't in the Royals' lineup for Friday's game against the Angels.

Advice: Renfroe will get a chance to regroup Friday after going 0-for-10 across his last three games. Dairon Blanco will cover right field instead and bat eighth. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:25 pm
    • Sitting Friday
Nevin is not in the starting lineup for Friday's matchup with the Mariners, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Nevin will take a seat for a second game in a row Friday as he's currently going through a 0-for-20 dry spell at the plate. Lawrence Butler will draw the start in right field and bat eighth against Seattle. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:01 pm

    • Gets breather Friday
Davis isn't in the Athletics' lineup for Friday's game against the Mariners.

Advice: Davis went 2-for-6 and scored three times during Wednesday's doubleheader against Texas, and he will get an extended rest period as the A's begin their series with Seattle. Tyler Soderstrom will fill the void at first base and bat sixth. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:58 pm

    • Mark Canha returns to Tigers’ lineup on Friday
Mark Canha (illness) returned to the Tigers’ starting lineup for their series opener against the Astros on Friday night.

Advice: The 35-year-old outfielder missed each of the team’s last two contests due to illness. He’s off to a decent start overall through his first 34 games with the Tigers — hitting .248/.367/.444 with five homers, 16 RBI, one stolen base and a 28/17 K/BB ratio. He’ll serve as the team’s designated hitter and bat third against left-hander Framber Valdez on Friday evening in Motown. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:32 pm

    • Idle for second straight
Kirillof is not in the starting lineup for Friday's outing against the Blue Jays.

Advice: The 26-year-old will start from the dugout for the second straight matchup as Austin Martin will take left field versus Toronto lefty Yusei Kikuchi. Kiriloff has struggled lately to produce with his bat, going hitless in his last six games. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:58 pm
