The Marlins selected Tyler's contract from Triple-A Jacksonville on Sunday.

Advice: Tyler will be making his first career MLB start Sunday, taking the place of Braxton Garrett (forearm), who landed on the 15-day IL. The 27-year-old Tyler owns a 2.80 ERA and 1.18 WHIP through 45 innings in Triple-A, and he allowed one run in two innings during his only other MLB outing this season. • Marlins bring up Kyle Tyler for Sunday spot start
Marlins selected the contract of RHP Kyle Tyler from Triple-A Jacksonville.

Advice: Tyler isn’t a recommended streaming option for fantasy managers when he takes the ball for Sunday’s series finale against the Mariners. The 27-year-old righty has pitched well this season for Triple-A Jacksonville, but we’re going to need to see it at the highest level before fully trusting him, even in deeper mixed leagues. He could wind up sticking around for awhile with Braxton Garrett hitting the injured list with a forearm flexor tendon strain. Rotoworld Sunday, 8:22 am

    • In midst of throwing program
Speier (shoulder) has started his throwing program and will soon progress to throwing bullpen sessions, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Speier has apparently moved through his catch sessions without setbacks thus far, so the next phase of his recovery could be imminent. Once Speier has thrown some bullpen sessions without issue, he'll be sent on a rehab assignment. Rotowire.com Saturday, 9:22 pm

    • Kyle Tyler tabbed to start for Marlins on Sunday
Kyle Tyler will be promoted from Triple-A Jacksonville on Sunday to start for the Marlins in their series finale against the Mariners.

Advice: The Marlins have dealt with an absolutely unrealistic number of injuries in their starting rotation this season, and with Braxton Garrett getting scratched from his scheduled start on Sunday they really don’t have anywhere else to turn. Tyler, 27, has made eight career appearances at the big-league level — all of them out of the bullpen. At Triple-A Jacksonville this season he has registered a 2.80 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and a 35/18 K/BB ratio across 45 innings in 10 appearances (eight starts). He can safely be avoided for fantasy purposes. • Set for first career start
The Marlins plan to call up Tyler from Triple-A Jacksonville to start Sunday's game against the Mariners, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Tyler will make a spot start Sunday in place of Braxton Garrett, who was scratched from his start this weekend with left elbow discomfort. Tyler's only appearance this season with Miami came April 26, when he allowed one run on one hit across two innings before being designated for assignment. He cleared waivers and remained in the organization as a full-time member of the rotation at Jacksonville, with whom he's accrued a 2.25 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 29:16 K:BB in 40 innings since the beginning of May. • Gregory Santos (lat) faces hitters on Saturday
Gregory Santos (lat) faced hitters on Saturday in a live batting practice session.

Advice: Santos continues to progress towards making his Seattle debut after a spring training lat issue put him on the shelf to open the year. There’s a chance he’s ready to bolster the Mariners’ high-leverage relief mix at some point in a couple weeks, barring any setbacks. Rotoworld Saturday, 12:12 pm

    • Cubs activate Keegan Thompson on paternity list
Cubs activated RHP Keegan Thompson on the paternity list.

Advice: Thompson returns to Chicago’s high-leverage relief mix ahead of Saturday’s contest against the Mets at Wrigley Field following a brief stint away from the club on paternity leave. The 29-year-old righty picked up his first save of the season earlier this week and figures to continue to vulture the occasional save chance from veteran Héctor Neris moving forward. Rotoworld Saturday, 8:25 am
    • Returns from paternity leave
The Cubs reinstated Thompson from the paternity list Saturday, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: Thompson has been away from the team since Wednesday due to the birth of his son, and he'll now rejoin the Cubs' bullpen ahead of Saturday's game versus the Mets. In order to make room on the roster, Luke Little was optioned to Triple-A Iowa. Rotowire.com Saturday, 8:16 am
    • Scheduled for bullpen session
Santos (lat) is set to throw a live bullpen session in Miami on Saturday, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Santos continues to ramp up his activity level as he recovers from a right lat strain that he's been dealing with since February. Saturday's session will mark the first time the right-hander will face live batters, and he's inching closer to a rehab assignment. Santos appeared in 60 games with the White Sox last season, posting a 3.39 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 66:17 K:BB over 66.1 frames. Rotowire.com Friday, 2:18 pm
