    • Max Meyer strikes out four on Friday at Triple-A
      Max Meyer struck out four and allowed two runs over four innings on Friday for Triple-A Jacksonville.

      Advice: So much for the whole notion from Marlins manager Skip Schumaker that Meyer would be returning to the majors “soon.” While Miami’s starting rotation continues to struggle, Meyer hasn’t exactly delivered dominant performances his last few times out. Still, he’s a vastly superior option than the cromulent journeymen the Marlins keep throwing out there. It’s only a matter of time before the 25-year-old top pitching prospect gets another shot after having his workload closely monitored in the minors over the last few months. His fastball/slider combo remains outstanding and gives him a shot at immediate fantasy relevance once the Marlins finally decide to let him pitch in the majors again.     • Throws six scoreless in no-decision
      Steele did not factor into the decision in Thursday's 3-2 loss to Tampa Bay, allowing three hits and one walk while striking out five over six scoreless innings.

      Advice: Steele cruised through five innings then ran into some trouble in the sixth, but he escaped a bases-loaded jam and departed with a 2-0 lead at 93 total pitches. Steele earned his third quality start in his past four outings, but he is still winless on the season after the bullpen allowed three runs. Despite the tough luck, Steele's 3.22 ERA and 1.09 WHIP through nine starts are actually lower than his ratios last season, when he finished fifth in NL Cy Young voting.     • Steele tosses six scoreless in no-decision
      Justin Steele threw six shutout innings and got a no-decision against the Cubs on Thursday.



      Advice: Steele gave up three hits, walked one and struck out five. He was in line for his first win of the season before the bullpen blew the lead. Steele lowered his ERA to 3.22 with the effort. After missing all of April due to injury, he’s now completed at least five innings and had at least five strikeouts in six consecutive starts. Steele finished fifth in the National League Cy Young award voting last year and appears to have regained that form this year. The 28-year-old left-hander is set to face the Giants at home next week.

    • Goes six innings in loss
      Keller (8-4) was charged with the loss after he allowed four runs on eight hits with four strikeouts over six innings Thursday against the Cardinals.

      Advice: Keller's four earned runs allowed tied a season high, but he still managed to extend a streak of seven straight starts of at least six innings. He gave up a homers to Paul Goldschmidt and Brendan Donovan, making it the first time this season he's allowed multiple long balls in a game.     • Mitch Keller gives up first homers in five weeks
      Mitch Keller lost to the Cardinals after giving up four runs in six innings Thursday.

      Advice: Keller had gone five straight starts without allowing a homer and hadn’t yielded more than one in any outing this season, but both Paul Goldschmidt and Brendan Donovan left the yard against him today.     • Cleared to start Saturday
      Flaherty (back) said he's feeling better after receiving a pain-killing injection Tuesday and has been cleared to start Saturday's game against the Astros in Houston, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

      Advice: Flaherty was scheduled to play catch Wednesday and will throw a bullpen session Thursday, but unless the Tigers indicate that his back is still aching coming out of either of those activities, he shouldn't face any restrictions while he slots back into the rotation this weekend. The right-hander has delivered excellent returns on the Tigers' one-year, $14 million investment on him this offseason, as he'll head into Saturday's outing with a 3-4 record, 3.22 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 94:10 K:BB across 72.2 innings through his first 12 starts with Detroit.       Blanco (6-2) got the win over the Giants on Tuesday, allowing one run on three hits and a walk while striking out eight over six innings.

      Advice: Blanco matched his season high with eight strikeouts. His lone blemish on the night was allowing a solo home run to Brett Wisely in the third inning. It was an encouraging bounceback effort from the 30-year-old after allowing eight runs and combining to strike out eight over his prior two starts coming into Tuesday's game.       Ronel Blanco limited the Giants to one run and three hits over six innings in the Astros’ 3-1 victory Tuesday.

      Advice: Blanco matched his high total with eight strikeouts in bouncing back from consecutive poor showings against the Twins and Cardinals.       Flaherty (back), who received an injection Monday and is scheduled to play catch Wednesday, is expected to start this weekend against the Astros if he remains free of setbacks, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

      Advice: The 28-year-old exited his start last Tuesday due to back tightness and originally lined up to make his next turn through the rotation Tuesday versus Washington, but his spot has been pushed back a few days.
