    • Another quality start Sunday
Flaherty (0-3) was tagged with a loss after he pitched 6.2 innings, surrendering three runs on seven hits while striking out seven batters in Sunday's 9-3 defeat to Houston.

Advice: Flaherty opened Sunday's contest by firing five scoreless innings before Kyle Tucker launched a two-run home run in the top of the sixth inning. The Astros scratched across another run on him in the seventh frame before the right-hander's day came to an end with two outs in the inning. The performance marked his third straight quality start and sixth of the season over eight outings. Flaherty now owns a 3.88 ERA and 1.05 WHIP with 63 strikeouts over 48.2 innings in eight starts in 2024 and he'll look to earn his first win of the year in his next projected start Saturday on the road in Arizona. • Jack Flaherty slips to 0-3 after quality start
Jack Flaherty yielded three runs in 6 2/3 innings Sunday in a loss to the Astros.

Advice: Still no breaks at all for Flaherty, who is 0-3 in spite of a 3.88 ERA. He really should have given up just two runs today, but Joey Wentz allowed an inherited runner to score from first after coming on with two outs against the bottom of the Astros lineup in the seventh. Flaherty has six quality starts in eight tries this season. Last year, he totaled eight in 27 starts for the Cardinals and Orioles. Rotoworld Today, 3:03 pm

    • Hayden Wesneski making move to bullpen
Cubs manager Craig Counsell told reporter that Hayden Wesneski will be available out of the bullpen for the upcoming series against Atlanta.

Advice: The Cubs will start Shota Imanaga and Jameson Taillon against Atlanta on Monday and Tuesday, respectively, and a starter for Wednesday’s game hasn’t been announced. Wesneski has pitched well in his last three starts with a 2.20 ERA, but for now, he’s going to operate out of the bullpen which severely limits his fantasy potential. Rotoworld Today, 9:23 am

    • Heads to bullpen
Cubs manager Craig Counsell said Sunday that Wesneski has been moved to the bullpen, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Advice: Counsell noted that Wesneski will work out of the bullpen for the Cubs' upcoming turn through the rotation, so it's possible that the right-hander could still move back into a starting role at some point later this month. For now, however, Wesneski will likely need the Cubs to lose another starter to injury, or for a rainout or a busy portion of the schedule to create a need for a temporary sixth starter. Wesneski had made each of his past three appearances for the Cubs as a starter, going 0-1 with a 2.20 ERA and 1.16 WHIP across 16.1 innings. Rotowire.com Today, 9:12 am

    • Can't keep ball in park Saturday
Steele escaped with a no-decision in Saturday's 10-9 loss to the Pirates, surrendering six runs on six hits -- including three home runs -- and two walks over four innings. He struck out three.

Advice: Making just his third start of the season after missing all of April with a hamstring strain, Steele served up homers to Connor Joe and Oneil Cruz in the third inning and Michael Taylor in the fourth, but he got taken off the hook for the loss thanks to a seven-run fifth by the Cubs. Steele has yet to complete five innings in an outing and threw just 74 pitches (53 strikes) Saturday, but he should begin to get stretched out more as he puts the injury further behind him. Steele will take a 4.73 ERA and 11:4 K:BB through 13.1 innings into his next start, which lines up to be a rematch with the Pirates back in Wrigley Field next week. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:19 pm
    • Stumbles in second start
Means escaped with a no-decision in Saturday's 5-4 extra-innings win over the Diamondbacks, giving up four runs on six hits over 4.2 innings. He struck out three without walking a batter.

Advice: The southpaw got tagged for two runs in the third and fifth innings, but the Orioles scored in the eighth to tie up the game and take Means off the hook for his first loss before eventually walking it off in the 11th. He tossed 60 of 89 pitches for strikes, and he has a 3.09 ERA and 11:0 K:BB through his first 11.2 innings on the year. Means will look to sharpen things up on his next outing, which is scheduled to come at home next weekend against the Mariners. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:56 pm

    • Justin Steele allows six over four in no-decision
Justin Steele didn’t factor into the decision Saturday while allowing six runs over four innings against the Pirates.

Advice: Steele’s start was officially cut short because of a long rain delay, but it’s unlikely he was going to continue based on how well — or more accurately, not well — he was throwing. The southpaw allowed six hits and three walks with three strikeouts, and he allowed a Pittsburgh lineup that had been awful as of late to break through. These things happen. Steele will be back on the bump with a rematch against Paul Skenes and Pittsburgh next week. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:25 pm
    • John Means allows four over 4 2/3 against D-Backs
John Means allowed four runs over 4 2/3 innings Saturday against the Diamondbacks while not factoring into the decision.

Advice: Means was outstanding Saturday against the Reds. This outing would best be described as shaky at best. The left-hander gave up six hits, and he struck out three while not issuing a walk. The 31-year-old gave up a two-run homer to Ketel Marte in the third, and two more were charged to him after he exited with one out in the fifth. Means will try and bounce back Friday against the Mariners. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:20 pm

    • Max Meyer struggling back at Triple-A Jacksonville
Max Meyer was charged with four runs (two earned) over 2 2/3 innings on Friday for Triple-A Jacksonville.

Advice: Meyer struck out five and also issued four walks. He was brilliant in three starts for the Marlins at the outset of the regular season, but has struggled since returning to Triple-A. The 25-year-old righty holds a bloated 9.24 ERA, 1.97 WHIP and 16/7 K/BB ratio across 12 2/3 innings (four starts). It’s unclear when he’ll be summoned back to Miami, but we’re anticipating he’ll make an impact for fantasy managers, especially in the strikeout department, on a per-start basis.
