    • Optioned to Triple-A
The Diamondbacks optioned Hughes to Triple-A Reno on Thursday.

Advice: Hughes has given up seven earned runs in 3.2 innings over his last two big-league outings, giving him a 10.13 ERA and 2.25 WHIP on the year. In an effort to get back on track, he'll head back to Reno, where he owns a 1.83 ERA and 1.35 WHIP through 19.2 frames. Joe Jacques was recalled from Triple-A in a corresponding move. • D-backs recall lefty Joe Jacques on Thursday
Diamondbacks recalled LHP Joe Jacques from Triple-A Reno.

Advice: Jacques rejoins Arizona’s bullpen ahead of Thursday’s series opener against the Padres with fellow southpaw Blake Walston hitting the injured list with elbow inflammation. The 29-year-old lefty made one relief appearance earlier this season for the Diamondbacks after being claimed off waivers from the Red Sox. He figures to stick around for an extended period. • D-backs put Blake Walston (elbow) on 15-day IL
Diamondbacks placed LHP Blake Walston on the 15-day injured list with left elbow inflammation.

Advice: Walston ascended to the majors earlier this year and has pitched well for Arizona with a 2.84 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 11/9 K/BB ratio across 12 2/3 innings (three appearances, two starts). No word yet on how long the 22-year-old lefty will be sidelined, but he figures to miss at least a couple weeks, even in a best-case scenario. Rotoworld 18 minutes ago
    • D-backs option Brandon Hughes back to Triple-A
Diamondbacks optioned LHP Brandon Hughes to Triple-A Reno.

Advice: Hughes heads back to the minors amid a flurry of roster moves for Arizona to re-shuffle their bullpen mix. The 28-year-old lefty has struggled this season to a disastrous 10.13 ERA, 2.25 WHIP and 11/6 K/BB ratio across 10 2/3 innings (nine appearances, two starts) in his Arizona debut. • D-backs activate and option Luis Frías to Triple-A
Diamondbacks activated RHP Luis Frías from the 15-day injured list; optioned him to Triple-A Reno.

Advice: Frías will remain stationed in the minors as extra organizational relief depth. The 26-year-old righty has been on the shelf since mod-April recovering from right shoulder inflammation. Rotoworld 20 minutes ago
    • Heads to 15-day IL
Walston was placed on the 15-day injured list due to left elbow inflammation, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.

Advice: Walston was called up to make his first MLB start May 27 and made an additional start Tuesday. He was not part of the decision in either start, but he gave up just two eared runs in 9.0 innings. However, he will be unable to make a third start soon with the apparent injury that came of Tuesday's game. The Diamondbacks selected Humberto Castellanos from Triple-A Reno in a corresponding move. • Activated, optioned to Reno
The Diamondbacks reinstated Frias (shoulder) from the injured list Thursday and optioned him to Triple-A Reno.

Advice: Frias moved his rehab assignment from rookie ball to Triple-A on Tuesday, and he will officially remain with the Aces now that he's made a full recovery from the shoulder inflammation that sent him onto the IL in April. The 26-year-old right-hander allowed seven earned runs in 6.1 innings during his time in the majors before getting injured, and he would likely need to show major improvement at Reno before the D-backs consider bringing him back into their bullpen. • Struggles in debut
Povich (0-1) took the loss Thursday against the Blue Jays, allowing six runs on five hits and four walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out two.

Advice: Povich's debut started well, as he held Toronto scoreless through his first three innings. However, he'd give up a three-run homer to Vladimir Guerrero in the third inning before the Jays added two more runs in the fourth in an eventual 6-5 defeat. If the Orioles return to a five-man rotation, Povich figures to head back to Triple-A Norfolk where he pitched to a 3.18 ERA in 56.2 innings this year. Rotowire.com 58 minutes ago

    • Stanek pitches scoreless ninth to get save vs. A’s
Ryne Stanek didn’t allow a hit while picking up a save Thursday against the Athletics.

Advice: Stanek got the save chance with Andres Munoz (back) unavailable Thursday. The right-hander didn’t pick up a strikeout, but he was able to lower his ERA to 3.52 while procuring his fourth save of the season. If Munoz can’t go over the weekend against the Royals, Stanek could get more chances. Rotoworld Today, 3:14 pm
