    • Tommy Edman progresses to hitting from both sides
Tommy Edman (wrist) has been cleared to take batting practice from both sides of the plate.

Advice: Edman continues to work his way back from offseason surgery on his right wrist and remains without a definitive timetable to return to St. Louis at the moment. The versatile switch-hitting 29-year-old figures to be ready around the All-Star break, but he’s going to need a couple weeks of at-bats in the minors to get back up to speed in the wake of such an extended layoff. • Masyn Winn returns to lineup Thursday vs. Rockies
Masyn Winn (back) is in the lineup for Thursday’s series opener against the Rockies.

Advice: Winn took a seat for Wednesday’s game against the Astros to address a lingering back issue, so it’s a positive development that he’s ready to roll for Thursday’s series opener against the Rockies at Busch Stadium. The 22-year-old shortstop has been excellent this season, taking a major step forward at the dish, batting .309 with three homers and eight steals across 197 plate appearances over 54 games. • Returns to lineup Thursday
Winn (back) will play shortstop and bat leadoff in Thursday's game versus the Rockies.

Advice: Winn was absent from the Cardinals' lineup Wednesday in Houston as he battles a nagging back issue. It's something he's been managing off and on all season but hasn't seemed to affect him lately, as the rookie shortstop is slashing .370/.400/.575 over his last 20 contests. • Bobby Witt Jr. steals two bags in win over CLE
Bobby Witt Jr. reached twice while stealing two bases in a 4-3 win for the Royals over the Guardians on Thursday.

Advice: Witt Jr. is now up to 19 thefts on the year. The speedy superstar is playing at an MVP level with a .317/.371/.560 slash, and has picked up hits in each game thus far in June. If 2025 drafts were held now — and they are decidedly not — it’d be hard to argue that he wouldn’t be the first pick in the overwhelming majority of leagues. Scary to think he’s still only 23, too. • Promoted to big leagues
The Rockies recalled Jones from Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday.

Advice: Following injuries to Kris Bryant (ribs) and Sean Bouchard (foot), Jones will join the Rockies to add depth to a suddenly-thin Colorado outfield unit. The 26-year-old has slashed .240/.360/.387 with four RBI in 89 plate appearances with Albuquerque while also stealing 15 bases in 20 games. He'll be making his MLB debut whenever he gets into a game. • Rockies call up Greg Jones for MLB debut
Rockies recalled INF/OF Greg Jones from Triple-A Albuquerque.

Advice: Jones was acquired this spring from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for LHP Joe Rock. The 26-year-old remains a speed-first player with a .240/.360/.387 in 20 games at Triple-A this season with 15 steals. He is sporting a career-high 12.4 percent walk rate, which would be a positive development given his wheels. It remains unclear how much he’ll play in Colorado, and he doesn’t offer much other than stolen base upside. Jones is taking Sean Bouchard’s spot on the active roster, and when he gets into a game, it will be his MLB debut. Rotoworld Today, 12:13 pm

    • Expected to be called up
The Rockies are expected to call up Jones from Triple-A Albuquerque prior to Thursday's game in St. Louis, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Jones, 26, would be making his major-league debut if he gets into a game. He missed some time with Albuquerque this season due to injury but when healthy has slashed .240/.360/.387 with two home runs and 15 stolen bases over 20 games. While Jones also has experience at shortstop, he'll have a better shot at playing time in the Rockies' outfield. Rotowire.com Today, 10:27 am

    • Swinging hot bat at Vegas
Allen owns a .420 average and 1.055 OPS over 80 plate appearances in 17 games with Triple-A Las Vegas since being optioned May 3.

Advice: Allen has eight extra-base hits (six doubles, one triple, one home run), 12 RBI, eight walks, two steals, a hit-by-pitch and 16 runs, making it an all-around dominant showing for the previously struggling shortstop. Allen has also upped his walk rate from a 6.5 percent figure he'd mustered during his time with the Athletics to 10.0 percent, while his strikeout rate has seen a welcome reduction from 24.7 percent to a modest 15.0 percent. Nevertheless, the A's already saw this type of drastic dichotomy from Allen last season, when he thrived in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League but produced strikingly different numbers at the major-league level. With Max Schuemann putting together a solid showing (.261 average, .709 OPS) at shortstop with the big-league club, Allen doesn't appear to have a viable path for a return to the Athletics for the time being. • Clubs homer No. 10
Lindor went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and a second run scored in Wednesday's win over the Nationals.

Advice: The shortstop produced his fourth multi-hit performance in the last seven games as he continues to heat up. Lindor has hit safely in 14 of the last 15 contests, slashing .359/.406/.594 over that stretch with three homers, three steals, seven runs and nine RBI. Rotowire.com Today, 8:48 am
